BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

The ADSL checker will only how results for BT Wholesale lines, your line with Sky is a wholesale LLU MPF meaning that sky rent the bare cables and the line/number is totally controlled by Sky.

Ie, that's normal, use the address checker, my talktalk MPF line is the same because BT have no control over it.

Appreciate you clarifying thank you!

Does anyone know who I can contact regarding the fiber situation (or rather the lack of) in my area? There used to be an e-mail address but it's shut down now and i'd like to know why in the Gods name we still don't have fiber in this busy, built up area while the knuckle draggers up the road do.

The percentage is only the likelihood that that is actually your cabinet, not the likelihood of deployment. That cab is definitely getting deployed.

Hi there,

Did you get your 7800n working with a HH5? How did you do it?

Can't find much info online & I'm missing the range of my 7800n!

Not with a HH5. My ISP is Zen. I have the openreach modem downstairs at the master socket and I've fed some external cat5e from the modem upstairs to the 7800n.

So what does this mean?

Besides from the Cab number and probability that its my cab.

18 Huawei 100% 18.34 BDUK Wales 13b Being deployed as part of BDUK

  • Cabinet 18
  • Fibre twin cabinet vendor chosen
  • Liklihood of this cabinet serving your property
  • Average speed uplift multiplier over current ADSL services
  • BDUK district and plan phase (need to check what 13b means with BDUK Wales)
  • Type of rollout, BDUK or Commercial

Has anyone else had problems with loading certain videos on YouTube, either currently or in the past?

Over the past week or so I've noticed that certain videos just won't load, or if they do they take a while and then may only play for a little while before stopping, and I'm unable to change the video quality. Usually though it just sits at 00:00 with a black screen (or occasionally the very first frame) and the small circle of dots indicating the video is loading. However many videos load and play perfectly fine, it is just some that do not, and there seems to be no logical link between the ones that do or don't. For example I might be able to watch a video perfectly well in HD from one channel, but then I may try to watch another of theirs and it won't load at all.

I experience this issue across multiple browsers, computers, and even on my phone (when connected via WiFi). It is the exact same videos as well, so if it doesn't work on one device/browser then it won't work on any. If I turn WiFi off on my phone and just use the mobile network then the video loads fine, so it is obviously something to do with my BT Infinity connection. I've rebooted both my modem and my router (I'm using an Asus RT-N56U rather than the HH) but that hasn't helped either. None of my hardware has changed recently, so I can only assume it is something beyond my control.

I have tried searching around online and found this thread on the Mozilla forum from someone who had exactly the same issues as me:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/983930

Unfortunately their problems just vanished without them doing anything so it doesn't offer me much help. However they do make reference to YT having problems with some ISPs, but as this doesn't appear to be a hugely widespread issue, maybe it is just some IP ranges.

I'll probably try and get in touch with BT, but does anyone else have any info/suggestions they can add?

15 minutes after activation, will have to see how it settles down over the next couple of weeks.
Need to either work out how to change DNS server with the supplied router of work out the settings for one of my other routers next.

Username and pass into the router that PN gave you. Easy.

I've got a Asus N66u & the Merlin FW with PN fibre, works a treat, 100% reliable. :)

From the ping looks like interleaving has kicked in which indicated possible line isn't 100%.

I had my FTTC wander down to about 65Mbit down after a few months - I'm guessing due to congestion but has now jumped back upto pegging the max possible speeds.
