BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

So I got a flyer through the post the other day from SuperfastLancashire to say Fibre is coming to my area soon!

I would be excited but they have put the date back 4 times over the last 12 months already.

Believe it when I can order it.

So the Filton exchange is enabled for FTTC fibre and apparently can't get fibre! Double checked that my area is served by the Filton exchange.

I've done a lot of reading and openreach were not overly helpful, can someone please explain why it's not available to me? I should mention that SamKnows et al all say I can get it but the ISPs direct websites say no :(

Perhaps the street cabinet that your are hooked up to hasn't had a RDSLAM NGA cabinet installed yet, or you are connected direct to exchange.

If your connection is 16Mbit or more then you might be direct connected.

There are some sites that will tell you your cabinet number but I don't recall whet they are.

WBC Fixed Rate is fibre right? Thoroughly confused, sorry chaps.

The above was done with the address and postcode checker (yet to move in, don't have a landline).

Don't think I'm direct to the exchange, it looks a long way on the map! ADSL predicted speeds are 4Mb so it seems unlikely I am direct connected. Just seems odd for Bristol to be honest!

WBC Fixed Rate is not fiber.

In my very recent experience, even if fiber is technically available to the property, it will not show on the checker until you have an active line and search on the phone number.

Enough reason there not to swap to BT at all. I would hate to have to go back to ringing scripted off-shore helplines when it unfortunately goes wrong. At least with Sky you get a dedicated Fibre team based in the UK, albeit a lot of them are Scottish lol. The only benefit of BT over Sky is the free BT Sports in my personal opinion. BT managed to pick up the worst CS rating this year too I noticed, someone finally knocked TalkTalk off the bottom step haha

I'd normally agree, Sky have been rock solid for me, but BT are offering a total of £360 in cash back/vouchers/discounts, add that to the broadband being twice as quick and free BT Sport for 12 months and it's tempting. I'd be happy to stay with Sky if they'd match the broadband speed and make a modest gesture on the price (it's cheaper to retain a current active customer than acquire a new one), but so far the best they've come up with is 50% off TV for 12 months with no contract and I don't want to split the services if I can avoid it.

I've been with BT for a couple of years, and as long as you don't need technical support, the quality of the service itself has been flawless. There were a few issues in July because of the heat, but you would've had those with any ISP as they were linked to the cabinets overheating. £360 is a huge amount of money to turn down.

Yep, £60 is discounts that run for between 3-6 months for new customers, £100 is a Sainsbury voucher (wasn't quick enough to get the £125) and £200 is cash back via Quidco (already tracked, paid in Nov). I'm hoping that as it's a soft install I can side step the issues people have with contractors being used vs an OR install.

Tech support is a slight concern but i've had zero issues with Sky fibre/tel since we moved house a few years back so the line/cab is fine, I can't comment how good/bad Sky's TS is, i'm just hoping I can say the same sort of thing about BT in 18 months :)

Nothing is ever perfect. I moved a few months ago, and BT ended up delaying the install a couple of times, meaning I was without Internet for 4-5 weeks after moving to the new place. But the delay was Openreach's fault, so any other ISP would've probably had the exact same issue.

It's all fairly rotten when you start digging, but as long as you are lucky and avoid customer service, the quality of the service itself + the price are the only two things I put any great importance on, especially when the price difference multiplies out by months and years.

How long does it take from when the road-side cabinet gets upgraded to when Infinity actually becomes available? The cabinet near me was done last week.

Hi all,

I have recently moved to Bristol and live in a studio flat. I am not a huge internet user and only use it for general browsing. living on my own makes the price of internet rather expensive due to the compulsory line rental. there are however a few BT Wifi hotspots available from my flat which i assume are from the neighbors router.

I am looking to offer a BT Broadband user a small monthly fee so i can use their details to connect to the BT hotspot. if you are interested, please PM me.

If this request is against forum policy then please accept my apologies.

Regards

Azam

Hi guys, been a while since posting anything on here. I would like to know what Router to get to replace the BT Hub. I am on a Business Line and Package and would like to replace the BT Hub. Any tips would be great.
