BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

20 metres away from a green cabinet. It appears to be a Virgin Media cab though.

I can only gather that there just isn't enough business for them to be hugely bothered, or they are having issues with planning permission with the cabinet.

if your only 600 meters from the exchange you may not even be connected to a cab and you may be connected straight into the exchange..

if that's the case your waiting for FTTC that may never come.. you may have to wait until BT do some sort of FTTP instead

best bet would be to use the BT wholesale checker and use your address to check not your postcode or number as this will tell you what cab your connected to.

Thanks, its been as high as 36Mb and and as low as 25Mb. I think I'll just leave it alone for a few weeks and see if it creeps up at all.

Don't hold your breath, until vectoring is introduced expect a steady decline in speed as contention and crosstalk increases as new punters take fibre.

I started at 70mb/s 6 months ago and its steadily dropped to 50.

just placed an order for my dad who recently got infinity enabled in area
just got the bt infinity 1 package and going to be 4 weeks until activation!!

I was really lucky it was about a month from when they dug the road up till i could order. Strange considering wales and the middle of no where i was expecting a years wait after the cabinet appeared.

Looks like I can finally order Infinity 2 Broadband, woohoo!!

Interestingly the the ADSL checker page also says:

Other Offerings
FTTP on Demand 330 30 -- Available

I would fall off my chair if this is actually true, how do you go about ordering FTTP?

BT Retail don't offer it. You're looking at someone like Zen, Gradwell, A&A etc.

I thought they did under the guise of infinity 3/4. It used to be on the website but it has been removed, I always assumed if you could get it when you type in your phone number it offered it.

Edit: Misread yeah FttpOD isnt offered by retail afaik and is silly expensive to install.

Absolutely sick of this. For 6 months the date has been pushed further and further back in time, now it simply states it's not available and we don't know when it will be.

I wouldn't mind but I am less than 600 metres from the exchange! It's insane.

I don't want to give my money to Virgin but just placed an order with them.

I've just done the same.

I joined BT last November and they said that by the end of 2014 I would have Fibre available in my area, still hasn't come. Anyway, I'm paying wayy too much for Broadband with BT, I only got 5mbit lol!

I've just placed an order with Virgin Media, I reckon I've bargained a decent deal, 100mb broadband, unlimited anytime calls and they've thrown in free caller display for £22 a month for first 6 months then £25.50 for the remaining 12 months. I've paid the line rental up front £144.

Try being the only house on a street where everyone else has fibre and I never will because I'm hooked up to a cabinet that is (and always will be) "commercially inviable" to upgrade!
