BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I contacted Openreach using the form on their website and one of their customer service guys wrote back to me using [email protected]. There's no notes in the email to suggest it's a no-reply mailbox either.

Good luck though, they took almost 2 weeks to get back to me and their website states 48 hours..

Cheers guys, just sent a few e-mails.

Edit:

Just got a reply from Gavin.

Patrick,

Thank you for your email.

I will ask Kim Mears who is leading on the fibre programme to advise.

Sincerely,

Gavin

So my Zen fibre's been in for around 2 months now and I get 31Mb / 7Mb, the infinity checkers says I should received 35-48Mb / 8-11Mb. I've ruled out the internal wiring as being a problem as there is none and I've put a new faceplate on where it comes into the house.

Zen says this is within their tolerances, what do you think? Should I be expecting more?

Guys, what can I use to get the connection from one side of a room to another.

My ONT is located in an under stair cupboard but I would like the net to reach my TV/PS4. Everything is wireless capable but id prefer to keep it all wired for reliability.

Thanks.

Attenuation looks good but with that sync @ 6db SNR short of trying a few different modems/routers to see if one can handle the line better its probably due to line conditions downstream of you and not much you can do.

Thanks, its been as high as 36Mb and and as low as 25Mb. I think I'll just leave it alone for a few weeks and see if it creeps up at all.

PON light has gone solid! Wahoo.

Ordered BT Infinity 2 though. Main reason is I will be using wireless a lot of the time and my kit (TV, WDTV, PS4) Just wont use the 300 meg connection.

Absolutely sick of this. For 6 months the date has been pushed further and further back in time, now it simply states it's not available and we don't know when it will be.

I wouldn't mind but I am less than 600 metres from the exchange! It's insane.

I don't want to give my money to Virgin but just placed an order with them.

I was about to sympathise and say that i am in the same boat, the date just goes back and back with seemingly no hope of it ever going live.

Then you say you can already get Virginmedia cable! All sympathy lost :p I am stuck on a slow ADSL line with zero alternative, not even mobile phone coverage.

Patience is strong in this one.

What frustrates me is that neighbouring streets are enabled, I live so close to the exchange that I'd get maximum throughput. It's all a bit insane. I'm assuming that demand must be low!?

When I say 6 months, that's how long I've been obsessively watching the status, watches it creep further and further back, and now the status is just unavailable. The exchange has been ready to go for well over 2 years now.

You are right, I feel for those that can't get neither.

Distance from the exchange isn't a factor for FTTC (ignoring Exchange Only lines)- it's how far you are from the green street cabinet.

20 metres away from a green cabinet. It appears to be a Virgin Media cab though.

I can only gather that there just isn't enough business for them to be hugely bothered, or they are having issues with planning permission with the cabinet.
