BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Its bugging me as I think my line can do better. I've been waiting patiently for the DLM to kick in but that doesnt seem to happen any more, on my line at least.

As always the DLM drops your speed if it thinks something is wrong but is extremely slow at increasing once it's settled again.

Recently Openreach having been doing a lot of work in my area, I've seen them at the cabinet many times and laying new cables in the ducts near me, during this time I have noticed quite a few disconnects and my speed has dropped (ping increased) but it's not picking back up.

Got curious and decided to check mine, last I heard the rollout schedule was "some point before the world ends", now, accepting orders :D. Not bad for a small village, I can only imagine some of the pre-existing copper is probably going to cause a few headaches though.

Finally ordered!

Just need to sort out a means of connecting laptop and panasonic voip phone to work using openvpn and I am away :)

Happy days for me, I have had the Bt fibre checking page as my home page for several week and checking it every day to see if I can get fibre has paid off:) I will be going from 2.5 to 79:) I have also ordered it for my mum up the road and she will be leaving behind 0.5.

So, I decided to give the hg612 I've got laying around a go, considering people seem to have nothing but praise for it, and well, it syncs significantly lower than the hh5.

It loses out to it by 3-4Mb. What gives?

You might be losing between 3-4mb using the HG612 but the constant reboot people are experiencing with just using the HH5 on it's own could well result in a much higher loss and it could take a while before you would see an increase in your speed once again.

I am getting Infinity 2 connected today and will be using the HG612 along with the HH5 and see how things go.

Are there any statistics as to how many exchanges Openreach actually upgrade on the original date they give?

The new cabinet has been on the ground since Easter time and our exchange was originally listed as June. This then moved to September, November and finally December.

We are now in mid-Jan and still no sign of any movement at all. No-one (including the broadband contacts at the council who are presumably chucking a large amount of funding at it!) have any idea of what is going on.

It also seems that Openreach have recently removed all the plans for future roll-out from their website. All that remains now is a list of the exchanges that are already enabled.

All very frustrating!

It says the same as it has since February last year!:

Your area will be enabled within the next six months and we'll provide more details nearer the time. At the moment you can't order Superfast Fibre.

They have also recently removed all the files from this site with future go live dates etc.

My HH5 is fine. It doesn't seem to suffer from the constant reboots. It does occasionally do it/lose sync, but certainly not enough to trigger speed lose due to dlm (Been on infinity for 9 months or so, HH5 have never caused me speed lose).

Only tried the 612 to see if it would sync higher as it's meant to be a better modem.

Then I'm afraid to say it looks like you are served directly from the exchange, so are never going to get FTTC unless they install a cabinet outside the exchange and connect your line to it, but they really only seem to do this with BDUK funds now.

I think I am in the same boat so it would have to be FTTP I think?

Just had Infinity 2 installed this afternoon.

I realise it will take a few days to settle in but good speeds right out of the box I think :D

Sorry to tell you this but we all got these speeds on the day it was installed :)

I can tell you now it will drop down to about 55 after a month or so .... Kinda sucks in away as you know you can get those speeds but BT don't let you keep that profile for long.

Agree. Mine started off at the full speed 76Mbps (connected at over 80Mbps) and has now dropped to 71/72Mbps after line noise on the external side and DLM + Interleaving kicked in, upload remains at full 19Mbps though (connected at 30Mbps). If you're lucky you won't see much drop like me, if you're unlucky, you could quite literally hit the dirt.

I had Fttc activated last Wednesday, so a week ago now. Maximum attainable started off at 83500 with a full rate sync (obviously).

Already down to 80500 attainable, just holding onto a full sync by the skin of my teeth :( I wonder how much further it will fall.
