BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Dunno if this is the right thread but I have noticed engineers futzing with the cabinet constantly since FTTC came to my street. The cabinet is about 15 feet from my house and I pass it every time I go to the shops. Seems like there's a guy hunched in front of it every other week. The pavement is covered in shorn-off bits of wire casing or pruned wiring.

Is this bad?

They said they do FTTP but only for commercial. No current plans to rolling it out to residential, unless I want to pay a small fortune.

I think someone is confused. FTTP-on-demand is available to anyone in the coverage area, it just costs a fortune to have installed since the actual costs of digging a cable in are passed along to the end customer.

There is no FTTP rollout that has specifically targeted commercial areas, since Openreach know that those customers probably need (and can justify paying for) an Ethernet fibre circuit.

They'll need to visit every time they get a new user on FTTC.

Has FTTP-on-demand been unsuspended yet?

I can have a look but if it really is in the hands of Openreach there's not a huge amount I can do to light a fire up their backside. Trust message me your details SS.

Currently with plusnet fibre extra however there will soon be the option of ultra fibre optic (fttp) coming to my street. The good points are 1000mb up and down. Bad points are its Talk Talk or Sky only. Has anyone got anything good to say about them and what are you paying as the costs are not published?

Cheers

Dave

Line fault was not fixed today, apparently they found a "major issue", so still reduced speed and no voice service. Date of fix slipping, fair enough. Stuff happens, bigger issue than first thought.

What I don't understand is, the fault tracker said "fixed". Only once I phone did I get "found another major issue on the line".

So what, they found one issue, fixed it. So decided to mark the fault as "fixed" even though it's clearly not sorted it.

Welcome to Openreach. Have fun over the next 3 months.

Would rather not make a thread so I'll see if I can get an answer here.

Fibre is supposedly coming to my house soon, I'm currently on ~1mbps.

We have the BT HH4 and it really struggles to reach certain parts of the house. My question is, will the HH5 have better range, or should I be thinking about a different router or something else.

I'm pretty out of my depth with routers etc so please be gentle :p

Just Emailed the CEO of BT. Even tho I upgraded am still on 17mb down as Openreach never switched me and my brotherinlaw to the new cabinet...

I ordered a phone line (reconnect) and BT Infinity and the completion date is today (Tuesday 18th).

I've got no phone line or broadband, when I log on to check the status of the order all I get it a message saying:

We're sorry, your order has not progressed as expected
We are aware of the problem and a specialist team is working on it. We will be in contact as soon as we have further news. If you would prefer you can contact us.

I've phoned BT twice and spoken to different people, all they said was 'we have to wait until after midnight'......wonderful!

Is this normal?
