BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I'm absolutely furious with the crap that is BT customer service.

How the hell do they get away with been so terrible? I've spoken to about 12 different people over the last 3 days....my BB was supposed to be activated on Tuesday and it still hasn't been activated. I don't understand why they struggle to get this concept, I even had to spell 'Andrew' to them on the phone. :(!

There's a reason they make so much profit. They farm most of their support out to India so they can save money while providing a rubbish service.

Spoke to a BT guy complaining that my Infinity hasnt been activated, he said I cannot get broadband at this address.....I mean seriously how incompetent can a company be?

I've just put my details into BTs own checker.

That says I can get 55-78mb off my phoneline.

They are infuriating me!!

Been on the phone for 1 hour with a nice man with a Geordie accent.

Basically my entire order was messed up, he spoke to a 'specialist' order team and the only way to fix it was to completely cancel my order and reorder everything.

He did it all on the phone for me, I'm extremely frustrated but he did have the decency to try sort it out for me - that's all we ask!

Yeh he said I can do that once I get an email confirmation of the new order.

I was expecting one this evening, but he said the order was being done 'offline' through a contingency form?

Is it true that once a new line is installed to a fibre enabled Cabinet it could take up to 10days for BT Openreach's database to be updated, saying your line is capable of fibre?

I'd never heard of this before but apparently it's normal for openreach's database to take a while to update so you can order your BB line.

Happened to me, went onto livechat and they ordered it there for me instead.

I got passed around 6 different people on the chat earlier - they didn't understand.

Using the BT Openreach check (https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html) I get this for my address:

And I get this for my actual new number they installed:

I'm really hoping it just takes a couple of days for the database to update and show that fibre is actually enabled for me.

Your ISP can order what's called a simultaneous provide. If you order a phone line only then you have to wait for the order to clear and the BT telephone number > address database to update before you can order FTTC.

Just had my BT Infinity 2 activated today and I'm getting 55mbps/9.5mbps speeds with lowest pings around 16ms. Is this normal? Seems a bit low to me. Should I expect it to get any better after a few days? My main concern is the upload speeds which are half of what the maximum is. :(

I'm coming from Sky Fibre where I was getting 36mbps/9.3mbps speeds and 9ms pings. If it doesn't improve, is it possible to downgrade to Infinity 1?

OH MY GOD I just checked and I can get BT infinity. Is 76mb the fastest fiber you can get obviously not counting virgin.

With FTTC yes. 76 is the advertised maximum but if you're further away from the cabinet then your speeds may be lower. If you're closer you could get 80.

There are, of course, other FTTC providers. BT are fine, until you need their help.

Ok thanks it's quite pricey tbh but Since I'm already with them with phone, broadband and sport, then I'll Just upgrade to infinity.

Surprised sky isn't offering that speed though.

I had BT Infinity activated on my new (to me) flat while I was on holiday in Canada the other week, actually quite surprised how smoothly it all went. Ordered it all online before I went away including having the phone line connected, set a date so my Mum could be at the property for the engineer and to connect the HomeHub up, all up and working on the same day so it was all set when I got back and moved in. Getting good speeds around 38Mbps and not had any drops or issues so far.

Is there any way to get offers on BT infinity 2? I pay 5 pounds for my normal broadband with BT infinity they're charging £32 pounds. Massive jump in price.
