BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

i have just noticed that the speed has dropped nearly 10mbs compared to what i was getting when it was activated 3 days ago, will it not likely to go up again?

Yay, my exchange was finally fiberised thanks to the BDUK scheme. There was zero communication to anyone that it was being planned mind, I just happened to check the BT superfast website and spot a "fibre is coming " message. According to the exchange activation date on telecom tariffs I got mine installed a few days after the exchange went live, awesome :).

I went for infinity 1 as I don't really need 80Mbps. Poking around on the home hub, is the maximum data rate implying that if I wanted it, and the packages were available to do so, that I could achieve 38.92Mbps up / 103.51Mbps down? I understand that'll go down due to crosstalk as more people join mind.

Code:
1. Product name:	BT Home Hub
4. Board version:	BT Hub 5A
5. DSL uptime:	3 days, 04:42:46
6. Data rate:	9999 / 39993
7. Maximum data rate:	38921 / 103507
8. Noise margin:	31.0 / 25.5
9. Line attenuation:	16.0 / 13.7
10. Signal attenuation:	16.1 / 13.7

Are my margin and attenuations OK as well? I've no idea with VDSL.

Yeah if you are close enough to the cabinet - looks like you'd get very close to (but note quite) a 100Mbit synchronous connection on a 30a profile.

(Would that improve my ping?)

Nope - you'll probably find that initially the connection will have some level of interleaving enabled so you might find latency drops a bit after a couple of weeks or so as it settles down.

That's totally wrong.

The connection will start with no interleaving at all. It will be on a wide-open profile for the first 24 hours. After that, if needed, DLM will add interleaving and perhaps G.INP too.

Apparently BT's new plans are

◾Aim for a new universal minimum broadband speed of 5-10Mbps
◾Plan to extend fibre broadband beyond government's 95% of premises target
◾10 million premises to receive speeds of between 300-500Mbps by end of 2020, with 1Gbps also provided
◾Co-funding of more community broadband schemes
◾Openreach to increase on-time customer installations
◾Aim to improve customer service with text progress updates and engineer's mobile phone number

What can of speeds can Infinity 2 users expect by the end of 2016?

I presume that those high speeds quoted above wont be for FTTC connections?

My FTTC connection is capable of speeds over 120MBit on a 30a profile, 520MBit (with average conditions) with g.fast and potentially upto ~600MBit "clean" - supposedly could drop as low as 200MBit with max crosstalk.

Finnaly sorted, after the disaster that was the first engineer who apparently his sole job is to unpack the router and switch it on, i turned him away and demanded a refund. Que next engineer who actually did what i wanted, moved the land line to a more suitable location, but he apparently didnt know what the adsl faceplate was so fitted the standard faceplate and seperate filter. So i swapped it back. Now i find out BT without asking me share my wifi with anyone, so on to chat to get that stopped.

Is there anything else i should now.

On the plus side im happy with my 37-38Mb connection, the upload is most noticeable coming from standard ADSL.
