BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I ordered Infinity 1 last night, and now the order tracker says this:

We're sorry, your order has not progressed as expected

We are aware of the problem and a specialist team is working on it. We will be in contact as soon as we have further news. If you would prefer you can contact us.

*sigh* I can't wait to find out what this means.

My order still says this and it's due to go live on 16/11. Quidco says if I contact BT (ie. if the order is not completed online) then I won't get the cashback.

Does anyone have any advice?

OK so TalkTalk went live yesterday, paying for the 76mb service. So far getting the following result:

Downstream line rate (kbit/s):

Question: They estimated the following Download: 35Mb-60Mb Upload: 10Mb-20Mb do I just leave my router on now in the hope the sync settings increase??

^^ looking at those stats that's pretty much it for that line, whether you think it's worth staying on the 80/20 package is up to you. Remember if you downgrade your upstream will be capped at 2mbit

Caved in and ordered my Infinity package this morning, received confirmation email and it shows 'Dates for your diary' as below in the screen grab. During the sign up procedure I definitely selected to install the equipment myself and said I would not require an engineer to visit, so not sure why its showing that they will visit on the 16th November? Is that just the way the confirmation email is configured or what?

Mine says exactly the same thing and I chose the self-installation option too :(

To be honest they are always doing work on the line/cabinets so will be sticking with the 80/20, is only £5 more a month than I was paying for ADSL2+.

I certainly hope so, but the way it is phrased is terrible.

i had the same aswell.

unsurprisingly there was some issue with my line and an engineer turned out but when i queried the self install with BT they are charging £44 for the engineer to plug in your router.

i think the engineer detailed on the screen above is for the cabinet part.

Just had the FTTP installation. First run on Speedtest was 195Mb using over wifi, right next to the router. Subsequent repeated tests are posting between 150-180Mbs from next to the router and the next floor up. My desktop is connected via TP Link 500Mb powerline connectors, although the TV is on a 200Mb version, which I understand will bring the speed of the 500s down. My desktop is showing a repeated ~40Mb connection, so I'm planning on upgrading the powerlines to 1200Mb versions. The engineer said it usually takes a few hours for the speed to ramp up and stabilise, and was surprised to see the initial 195Mb reading.

Was this a fibre on demand installation?

Cheers guys, kinda thought it might have just been the way the confirmation email was worded. Bit disappointed to find I can only get the up to 38Mb service as I'm pretty close to the exchange and my current vanilla BT broadband speeds are right at the top of the estimates they give for ADSL. But hey, suppose almost doubling speed is a good thing.

You should have a full speed connection from the get-go, especially with FTTP.

Try an ethernet cable directly in to the router and see what speed you're getting to rule out any wireless/powerline slowdown.
