BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

But then you're with Talk Talk. Good luck with that.

Along with the thousands of other non-vocal happy customers?

*Edit*
Actually - Talk Talk only £27.70 as currently £5 off on the fibre. Looks like a no-brainer.
I'll give BT retentions a final change I think.

Meh - my negotiations with BT have just failed.
Talk Talk can do me line rental plus upto 76mb fibre for £32.70/month.
Currently paying BT £42.50 for the same. Felt that "hassle saving" I'd accept £35/month from BT (renewal due 22 Dec) but they best they would offer was £38.

So now I have this big hassle.
If I let BT drop out of contract the Infinity 2 part becomes £29.90/month - that happens on December 22nd.
So if I want to move to Talk Talk I'm looking at requesting the exact date of 22-12-15 for switch-over. Being so close to Christmas what could possibly go wrong eh?

what about plus net ??

I'm not for a second suggesting Talk Talk are the ultimate ISP, but every ISP has it's fair share or happy and unhappy customers and at the current deal price I don't think anywhere can get anything near Talk Talk pricing.

Whilst that is true, there is a reason TalkTalk have won the last 4 of the last 5 worst customer service awards. I would gladly pay the extra a month to know I will get through to a technical guy in Leeds/Sheffield (think they're now all in Leeds) albeit a small wait as oppose to the indian chaps who are not technical and simply read scripts who will cause you know end of headache/frustrations.

Whilst both providers will provide the same performance (FTTC is GEA), inevitably something will go wrong and you will have to make that call, I know who I'd certainly prefer to call!

Well I guess we shall have to see :)
BT contract up on 22nd December and with them not negotiating and money being a consideration for me (that's what redundancy will do to ya) I shall welcome the £15/month saving over BT and keep my fingers crossed.

Name any ISP and you'll find plenty of vocal people with issues - it's the quiet happy ones that are more difficult to find.

Anyway, I'll be initiating the move at the beginning of December and will report back no matter what the result is - so either you'll all be able to tell me "told you so" or I'll be more than happy making my large saving and retain a good service.

Ok folks, I called BT Orders today as we were supposed to receive our Home Hub 5 by Thursday the 12th Nov. It never arrived so I thought I'd give it until today but it still isn't here. In my order tracking within my BT ID pages the equipment section is showing as 'Not Dispatched'. So I called them and I was put on hold until they looked into it. Guy came back on and said he had added a new order onto the system for an HH5 to be sent out which he says I will receive on Monday (the day my Infinity is supposed to activate) sometime before 18:00. Not a good start, them forgetting to send out the router!!

However, it wasn't until I came off the phone I suddenly realised we won't be here on Monday as we are away on holiday for a week. Damn!! Does anyone know who BT use to deliver HH5's for broadband orders and if so, is it likely to be left with a neighbour if we aren't in? I know I could call back and check with them but I was on hold for 15 minutes there waiting to be put through!!

Thanks.

Start a live chat with BT and they'll be able to rearrange the delivery.

I'd arranged the install for my new house to be done the day after we moved in but BT were going to send the HH out a week before that date at which point we didn't own the house and I didn't want it going to the old occupants. So at 8am one Sunday morning I used the live chat and they arranged to have the HH delivered to my parents.

Had some internet issues tonight. I'm on 8meg still and the homehub 2 after nearly 9 years. Reconnected and I'm now getting 20mb and 1.2 up. Checked and I can finally get Infinity in my street.

I will go for the 76mb, just wondering if anyone ever gets anything off that for the first year?

I will go for the 76mb

Check what speeds you can get with the BT Wholesale Checker before jumping right in at the 76mb package. I was all set to sign up for the same speed package until I found out that the max the Wholesale Checker predicts I can receive is going to be 35Mb. Not sure why, as we are quite close to the exchange and cabinet and I get almost maximum speeds on 'normal' BT ADSL at the moment.

It's possible you may not be connected to the closest cabinet to your house.

My internet has been running at about 3mb since Wednesday (usually 30mb, fibre). I called BT and an automated service told me that they've found a fault on my line and it should be fixed by Thursday. Not holding my breath though. :(

Just had plus net fibre installed.
