BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

My mother-in-law is moving from ADSL to FTTC and was told that an engineer call out wouldn't be needed. Is this really the case? I thought the BT socket had to be replaced with a newer one or is this no longer a requirement?
Its 99.9% just microfilters the same as ADSL installation these days :) I installed my own filtered faceplate.

Do those OpenReach modems that are sold on eBay work for both ADSL and FTTP? I'd prefer to buy a modem that will work with both if such a thing exists so that when I am (eventually) upgraded to FTTP, I don't need to buy a new modem.

I'm a novice with ADSL tech as I've been with Telewest/Virgin (cable) the entire time I've had home broadband.

They only work on FTTC. Just about any modem/router will work with ADSL.

Currently with BT infinity 2, and have stupidly forgotten about the contract expiration. What's the best deals these days? Shall I just phone BT and haggle/threaten to leave?

My bt contract is over and im paying £54 am for 55mb/19mb on my infinity 2..
Best offer BT gave me is £51.49 for 12month..
Think i will move to plusnet..

Yeah same, and I figured they wouldn't really play along with my threats to leave.

PlusNet any good these days? I almost don't want to go with them simply because of their annoying advert ha

I went from Plusnet to BT and wouldn't go back. Other people may have had better experience with them though.

I switched from Zen to Plusnet and the only difference I notice is that it casts me far less.

My contract had expired and I called them they offered me FTTH infinity 4 service including line rental for £58. £10 cheaper than my infinity 3 service crazy but very happy.

Can't believe the prices that BT charge for FTTC. I'm currently with Virgin and getting 100Mb for £33pm, and I don't see all the issues that others complain about with Virgin.
