Well I'm now down at 54Mbps :( (when i first took the service out I was on nearly full whack Infinity 2)

Which is below "The minimum guaranteed speed you can expect from your BT Infinity will be 64Mb." which I got when I took my contract out. When I called BT they insisted that I have a HH6 connected, problem is a gave it to my father in law as I use an unlocked Huawei HG612, is that true or are they just fobbing me off.

Should I just buy a HH6 and reconnect in order to let them test?

At these speeds I might as well downgrade to BT Infinity 1

Oh they have had the connection for years, it was quoted at 12MB back then IIRC. No contract now I should think anyway. Just decided to look into what was available with a view to possibly moving elsewhere and was intrigued to see what they quote possible and the fact the package is the full one yet we're getting ~22MB.
 
It's possible that the high estimate is a database error.

What do the neighbours' addresses show on the speed checker? If they are similarly high, try connecting the router to the test socket (underneath the faceplate on the master socket) and see if the sync speeds improve. If they don't, raise it with your ISP, as the potential fault lies with Openreach's network. If the speeds do improve, your internal wiring is borked and you would have to pay someone to sort it out.

That's possibly some nasty crosstalk. Shame you don't have vectoring on your cabinet.

Give BT a call, if the speedchecker says you'll get that speed they'll try to help. You'll have to go through various steps before they'll send anyone out to investigate though, such as doing speedtests with a PC wired to the router with no other devices connected. You tend to need to be quite firm with them that by explaining that the issue you're having is with the sync speed on the line and not any individual device, wi-fi signal etc.

If they can't get your speed up, they'll at least let you drop down to Infinity 1 as it's pointless paying for that extra speed if you're not getting it.
 
It's been almost 12 months since we got the ball rolling with BT and Superfast Staffordshire for their Community Fibre Program and a hefty amount of delays caused by BTs infamous bureaucracy we should be going live in the next two weeks. Going from 1.5 down 0.4 up to gigabit capable is going to be amazing!

Aunt has just moved into a new place that has FTTP, which is nice. It still uses a regular faceplate on the master socket with just a single phone socket and has the optical link hardwired from the bottom of the socket out to the openreach modem.

Currently have two options and would like your opinion on which would be better.

1. Microfilter into the socket and use my n600 as modem and router
2. Connect the n600 to the openreach modem to act as router only.

Is the openreach modem any good? It appears to be an older style. Would i get better speeds going straight into the socket and using the n600 as modem too?

Any thoughts?
 
Depends if you like the extra upload. I do a lot of uploading and only get 46 or so download, but my upload is nearly 19 which is great when needed. It isn't that much per month extra either and when G Fast comes it'll be even quicker down.
