It isn't that much per month extra either and when G Fast comes it'll be even quicker down.
Unfortunately, if you are currently syncing at a speed of less than 60Mbps, you are likely to be outside the current range for G.Fast and won't be allowed to order it. It's early days yet for the technology but I wouldn't count on seeing any benefit from it at that sort of distance from the cabinet.

1. Microfilter into the socket and use my n600 as modem and router
2. Connect the n600 to the openreach modem to act as router only.

Is the openreach modem any good? It appears to be an older style. Would i get better speeds going straight into the socket and using the n600 as modem too?

N600 as in WNDR3700?

It's a cable router, it doesn't have a modem. She must use the Openreach ONT.

The G.fast pods will be fitted to the pcp so if the pcp is nearer to your house than the fttc cabinet (which it should be for some users) it might just be enough to boost your speed.

Origin have congestion issues. With it being a new build I'd just stick with one of the main providers.

Well I keep reading that Virgin were garbage but I never had any issues in the years I was with them. I'm guessing it's because I live in Scotland where it's less densely populated. My ADSL will be permanently congested given I'll get 1 - 3 Mb!!

There was a lad on here who couldn't watch Netflix unless he used a VPN.

Congestion usually varies by area, but some ISP's are just plain terrible.

I doubt I'll be watching Netflix anyway with my promised speeds! As long as I can browse the web, that'll be a start. I c

You sure your new build and area doesn't have FTTC/FTTP?

Although the checker wont show it, can you not find out from the builders?

The builders are being pretty vague, saying that faster internet is coming but they don't know when. A neighbour told me that the cabling for FTTP is in but the cabinet needs upgraded. Which I'm guessing OpenReach won't do until the development is finished in about 18 months time.

If I check the OpenReach website, it does say houses further down the street are in scope for FTTP.

Your neighbour is probably passing on second hand information (cabinet upgrades aren't part of FTTP). Try contacting Openreach directly - they will eventually respond to an email.

I contacted OpenReach a couple of months ago. They did respond but asked for a telephone number. As I didn't have one, I just left it at that. Once I get a line installed and a number allocated, I'll get back to them, hopefully they'll give me more info.

Just out of interest, surely the cabinet needs to be upgraded or a new one installed to handle FTTP?

FTTP doesn't actually use the existing infrastructure aside from the ducting. Your property is connected to a node, which is connected directly to an exchange (not necessarily your local one - Openreach often bypass small exchanges and connect the nodes to a regional hub).

A node may be located near the cabinet but isn't dependent on it, which is how an order for FTTPoD can be placed whether or not your local cabinet has FTTC (i.e. an existing fibre link to the exchange).

Just got BT infinity, the speed is literally 10x faster than the original speed. (600KB/s to 6MB/s)

I'm having an issue where no steam games seem to download, does anyone know a reason for this? Everything else works fine such as youtube, etc. It did decide to download 1GB then stopped again.

Edit: I changed to a different server and it works. 6.4MB/s crazy speeds

Cleaner managed to unplug the HG612 today even though it has a bit red sticker on it saying "do not uplug" :(

With a SNR (dB): 7.6 shouldn't I be getting better than "Downstream rate = 57863 Kbps"?
