BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

As the crow flies I'm approx 345m from the cabinet. Two logical routes following the roads, one is ~487m and the other ~697m.

TBH, I'm happy with what I have as it's far better than the iffy 3 to 4Mbps I had direct to the Exchange :)

I wont be leaving Be for bt infinity.

I did exactly that almost a couple of months ago and it was a good move. I got around 19mbit on my Be connection and get the full 40mbit sync on my Infinity but it's still much better overall for me. Not a single regret.

That is about 750 meters that line, you either have a poorish line or some Alu along the way.

If you don't mind, how do you calculate approximate line length from the stats? Here's mine:

Anyone know where you can register interest these days as the RaceToInfinity site seems to be down now?

I live in a bit of an internet ghetto; No LLU, No ADSL2, No FTTC, No 3G, No Virgin Cable - so literally the only choice is your bog standard ADSL Max up to 8mbit package. My connection is slower than I had 6 or 7 years ago :)

However, the thing is my town should be a reasonable market for BT, there is very little competition (as you can see from the above, although some streets can get cable and/or 3G). The demographic should be good too, a lot of young professionals who would lap up a decent connection, fairly affluent (average house sale price around 50% above national average), Sky dishes on every roof etc. New homes are being built all the time so the market can only get bigger. People would literally be queueing up to get BT Infinity if it were available, I guess the only question really would be how much it costs BT to roll it out.

You have an excellent line there, I seen have seen LOTS of line stats and can usually guess the line length looking at the attenuation, your line is around 550 meters. looking at your snr there doesn't seem to be much crosstalk yet.

Your real attenuation will be 21dB

No, Just about every other ISP offers FTTC.
I was considering switching to Sky since i keep hitting the 40GB limit with BT.

But it looks like FTTC will be enabled in March 2012 so I don't want to get stuck in a contract with an ISP that won't be able to provide the upgrade once it becomes available.

I assume Sky are able to provide this service? or should I go with someone else, I have these available -

BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
