Why so you can link him to this post and refuse the RMA based on a single picture of it on an antistatic bag with no proof that he switched it on while on the bag?when the board comes back to us it will go through our normal testing procedures.

I doubt it's that... Sounds like the OP has told OcUK something totally different to what's actually happened, by the looks of it, the OP did start it on the AS bag, but I'm sure rjkoneill and OcUK will help him out.
To be fair though, the OP should have read up first about building your own system. This is the 2nd time something isn't working, he's obviously doing something wrong.
To the OP; I urge you next time put the motherboard on the box and remove all AS bags away from the components and also take your time. Doesn't matter how long it takes to build it, as long as it works after!

First I like to say fantastic responses from everyone and I am so grateful for all your responses, sorry about the long silence, I had my heart in my mouth while I waited to see what OC would say about the 2nd motherboard, luckily there are going to send me a replacement tomorrow.
The other motherboard with the bent pins has also been straightened but one broke so not sure how much use it be.
I have answered some of your responses:
I don't know, I took that picture when i was preparing my breadboard setup, when I saw your replies I for the life of me I couldn't recall if I had started it on the anti static bag, as by the time I had uploaded that picture and seen your response the motherboard was already in the case.
Well I thought I did the standoffs correctly but its so hard to say, I will double check this next time round.
It hasn’t put me off, although it has been an extremely stressful experience at times.
I am extremely grateful for your offer, I will however go for the 3rd time lucky attempt before I bring in help, I think so far maybe I just been unlucky and it actually isn’t that hard.

Very true, although if it doesn't work, you then get the fun of troubleshooting
Personally I don't bother building the PC outside of the case, as I decide if it's not going to work, it's not going to work whether it's built in the case or not, and if it does work, then it's allready in the case, and doesn't require taking apart and putting back together again.

I won't be building it outside this time, I connect the motherboard, cpu and psu then start testing each additional component one at a tiime inside the case.
When I first got all my components the weather was nice and sunny, now its all gloomy and seems to be raining a lot.

Troubleshooting is ok, though for me if the pc doesn't boot I have the "oh god, what have destroyed in the build" until I find the problem. I prefer the instant boot and running round the house shouting "it lives, it lives muahahahaha". This could just be me though

Not just you
I guess I have the same "Oh ****, what have I done?" although nearly every time that's happened to me, I then remembered I hadn't flicked the switch at the back of the PSU, so it was all ok

Not going to be able to build it today, the missus has brought home guests, so I have to do that social thing. So looks like the games will begin tomorrow.
