Burnount Paradise Demo next week?

I dislike Free Roaming, and would much prefer the old system of just jumping to the races. However, other games have pulled it off. NFS: Carbon, while hardly being a classic, had free roaming, but you didn't have to use it.
When I want to race I don't want to drive around looking for a race, I want to select it and go.

Oh well, maybe it won't be so bad and I will propably buy it anyway :p

Yeah the free-roaming isn't very "Burnout", but I'd imagine there'd be a few variations in the MP stakes. The "Marked Man" (which is new) I guess would be free roaming, and the demolition mode may have areas of the playarea only available.

Now, that hadn't even occured to me.
I still had my single player head on.

Yes, free roaming in an online world, where all the other cars you come across are other players, sounds brilliant. Bit like TD2 I guess, but hopefully, better.

Exactly mate, me too.
But NFS: Carbon did allow this. You just chose your next race on a map, rather than have to drive there, if you didn't want to. Bit like Burnout Revenge, where you unlock a set of races, and choose which one to do next... except clicking icons on a map, instead of clicking a tab. Same thing at the end of the day, it avoids free roaming, and takes you straight to the action. Hopefully Burnout will allow this too.

But for online, that does sound kind of cool.

I'm generally on the side who don't necessarily like free roaming. But, they've taken the old style Burnout pretty much as far as it can go, so I wouldn't criticise them for not just sticking to the winning formula.

It remains to be seen whether I will like the direction they've taken, but if I wanted a Burnout Revenge type of game, I'd still just play Burnout Revenge.

Wydro, Justin and I have just had a good race.

The LiveCam works brilliant! Take down your opponent and see the reaction of their face - it's hillarious!!!! Imagine racing at high speed, taking your opponent down, the cheer from yourself and the "Oh ****!!!!" from your opponent and a second later see their face on your screen with a pee'd off look!!

Can't get enough.

Top stuff. Keep the comments coming.
I've so far avoided getting a cam on the PS3, but I guess for this game, it would be worth it to join in the fun ;)

How long does the image stay on the screen for?
I take it you can't save it? ;)

V1N.

I think you can save it in the final version, the demo just takes it, shows it on your screen for a second or two and then goes.

I can imagine it getting abused. The image of Wydro about to say "****!" while slapping two fingers to his camera will haunt me for a while :D

But, I can imagine some pretty colourful smugshots appearing soon.

my eyetoy atm for the ps3 is permantly plugged in these day, makes a good mic also for online play, looking forward to the smugshots!

Excellent, you will be testing this for me then (? :D ) before I buy the Playstation EYE (gonna import it as the UK release date for the standalone just keeps getting pushed back again and again).

What a lousey game. The view is crap, theres a corner ahead but you cant see it, infact if your really desperate to play its worth the extra annoyance to hold the right thumbstick down for the better view.

The free roaming is rubbish, it feels like test drive unlimited but the user interface is no where near as good and not as much guidance is offered. I though burnout games were select a car, select a game mode and go, why change this?

Oh also jaggies jaggies jaggies and a terribly amateur pub band sounding music selection.

Played again and sorry to say it but i thought it was rubbish.

It's not Burnout at all. It is just NFS Most Wanted in my opinion but with take downs.

I just want to race god damn it, none of this free roaming nonsense!

Please bring back proper Burnout...:( . I know EA didnt make the game but i'm going to blame it on them! :p

Well I played it - wont be buying it to be honest but I didn't think I would anyway. :p The thing that annoyed me was I cant take down civillian cars now! Even if I hit into the back of them my car has to respawn! Also the boost dosnt feel like your going very fast :(

You CAN take down civilian cars, but the physics is a lot more advanced.

If you have one car moving, you can take it down.
If you have one car stopped, you can take it down if it's not as strong as you.

The physics comes in though where if you have TWO parked cars (or travelling), of which are weaker than you, then hitting the first one will shunt it to the other but that's twice as much force hitting your car - thus you'll crash.

Really wasn't impressed, not sure about the online aspect, it didn't really feel that fast like the previous burnouts and I'm missing the crash breakers which I loved.

Though its very nice visually and smooth, I found it annoying having to go and find races and the stunt challenges seemed nothing specially really.

I know this is only a demo but it really feels that its missing the elements I loved from the previous Burnouts.
