Bye Bye Game!

Great... I'm pretty sure I've got around £50 in points stored up with them. I best send the girlfriend in with my points card to spend them all or something...

But yeah, was only a matter of time, blah blah rabble rabble, etc.

Do they normally stop honouring vouchers/credit the moment they go into administration or is it dependant on individual cases?

What about warranties and the like? Do they go up in smoke too?

I was working at Thresher's when they went into administration and vouchers weren't accepted from the day the announcement was made. We were just told to take them and they all got sent to central office. I assume, but don't know, that Game would be the same?

Warranties should still be honoured by the manufacturer I would have thought.

So you couldn't take them for value against goods but you were asked to take them off the customers anyway and send them back?

Bet that was popular. :p

It is the job of the administrator to ensure that losses are cut as swiftly as possible with a view to finding a buyer or reducing the liability to creditors etc. So one of the first decisions they make will be to stop accepting vouchers.

Went into a few games in Central London yesterday. First time i've seen them that packed for ages (Except for midnight launches). Most of the pre-owned 360 games had gone and I couldn't pick up a copy of GoW3 -_- I went into HMV and it was £45. **** THAT.

Gutted if they do go under as the shop in my town is Awesome, The Manager/Staff have proper looked after me over the years with Console swaps & returns, The Manager/Staff are nothing short of Brilliant.

Went into two of my local Game stores yesterday and they showed no signs of closing down, fairly busy as normal, everything was normal prices - odd.

To be honest, I rarely used Game for anything anymore apart from the occasional console/game purchase if I was passing but that was pretty rare. I'll always remember them as okay in the mid `90s - but I won't shed a tear when they are gone.

The GAME in Hanley that used to be EB will be closing down in the next week or two, the only reason that the Potteries had two shops for so long is because when they took the shop over they had to honour the lease as part of the deal.

Or so i was told the other day at least.

went into Shrewsbury Game and the guy there said so far it had made little difference to them, and I must admit it was dead but then again it was a lovely Sunday afternoon...

Had a look in GAME today, aside from being almost completely empty (lovely sunday afternoon as said above). Really nothing worth mentioning. Some stupidly low prices on PS2 preowned games but that was probably the case anyway. Nothing else seemed particularly good.

No you won't, quite the opposite in fact. If a large company with a previously large buying/credit facility can't compete then nor can a small independant. People don't need a friendly personal service when games are heavily discounted online and digital delivery at under the rip in many cases exist.

Within a 10 mile radius of my house there are about 4 or 5 small/family shops that buy & sell games/DVDs. They are all doing fine even though in the same 10 mile radius there are 3 Game, 2 Gamestation and 2 Cex. Take away the competition and they'll get busier and a couple more will probably open.

Went into my local Game today and it was very busy. Big price drops as well, especially on preowned. Got FFXIII-2 for a tenner off, Catherine for £15 less than its usual price and a 2nd hand Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock for a fiver!

Consoles have also been dropped in price - £30 to £50 off their normal prices for Xbox 360s (most of which had sold out)

I was in the Wigan store today and a guy was pricing up loads of cheap stuff in baskets in front of the tills and he asked the manager why they were changing if they were only going to change again in the closing down sale that's coming up,

So I guess they have been told to prepare for a closing down sale

More good news this morning.....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17336697

75% has been wiped off what was left of thier share value this morning and now suppliers refusing to supply them its not looking good (not sure by supplier they mean just EA or whether other publishers are not supplying them either)

Feel sorry for all the employee's :(

Again Crawley has two Game Store's within 30 seconds of each other and a Gamestation within another minute. I think if it true they were waiting for leases' to run out they may have waited too long.

I'm going town in a bit so I'll pop in my local & ask, I'll be gutted if we lose our local shop.

Yeh, shares are down to 3.5p now.

They have 2 weeks before the quarterly rent bill will hit them. They don't have the money to pay that. They are actively looking for buyers now. Otherwise in 2 weeks time they WILL go into administration.

If you have any vouchers/store credit, I would get it spent now. Once they go into administration, they become worthless. You will be last on the list of creditors to be considered.
