Bye Bye Game!

The only downside is that now HMV are literally the ONLY high st retailer left who will still stock PC games which is pretty worrying for the many gamers who do not have decent broadband.

If GAME closes in the town where I work (Horsham,West Sussex) it will be impossible to buy a physical copy of even the most mainstream PC game.

GAME is the only store still stocking SOME games for PC. The local Tesco, Sainsburys, HMV no longer carry any PC titles. So yesterday I was unable to buy a copy of ME3 anywhere in the local area.

Not saying that GAME don't deserve their fate - pricing was always a rip-off. As of yesterday they were still trying to sell COD:Black Ops at £39.99 :D

I've hated them ever since they took over a really good local gamestation, which had a great used Dreamcast games and other retro games section.

This was one of the most annoying things about the Game/Gamestation thing.
The Aberdeen Gamestation frequently had loads of DC/Saturn/etc titles and the window usually had a load of retro consoles in.
Seemed like almost overnight that all just disappeared, the oldest console to be found in the windows was the original DS...

Rubbish.

Yeh I remember seeing Dreamcast arcade sticks and lightguns in the shop window of Gamestation only 4-5 months ago, then it closed with a big poster in the window saying that GAME now owned them or something, I raged....

Where did they all go? The retro stock, probably stuck in a warehouse somewhere. Not to mention my local Computer Exchange is closing, if only I could transport back in time to when they had shelves FULL of SNES, Mega drive, N64, Dreamcast and Saturn games....

I went into my local Game this morning and there was nothing on sale outside of the usual spring clearence stickers they have had up for over a month. No bargains at all, couldn't find a single game cheaper there than on Amazon.

Went into my local Game yesterday and didn't really see anything that jumped out at me. Ended up getting Skyrim to using my points up.

Can't wait for the 'Asda/Tesco/anyothershopyoucaretomention' don't stock any games other than the popular ones or new releases so I can't buy anything without going online anymore!' Thread.

I still don't understand how GAME could ever justify selling pre-owned console games at a higher price than a new copy. I was in there not long back and they had new copies of FF13 at £19.99 and yet it was £27.99 pre-owned. :p

Then there's the PC sections (not counting the 3 games for £10 stand), well I say sections but in the Hanley stores they're dire. The bottom one has a single shelf shoved out of the way in a corner with multiple rows taken up by WoW gamecard boxes. The one upstairs is even worse, you can hardly even get to it as once again it's a single shelf but this time it's hidden away behind a large pillar.

The only thing I have against Game is that they seemed to get lots of exclusive games and deals, like pre-order or collectors edition stuff. I don't mind shopping at game as they have had good delivery times for me in the past, but I don't like being forced to shop at Game because they managed to secure a exclusive deal. I also don't feel sorry for Game with all the bad way they do business that I've listened to from total biscuit on some of his youtube vids.

Hopefully with Game going out of the way, more retailers will get collectors/pre-order editions of games and create some competition.

I wanted Bayonetta and had a look for it in the White Rose store in Leeds on Friday evening. The copy they had was in absolutely disgusting condition to the extent that I don't know how anyone would have let it get in that state. Yes it was cheap but I don't think it was worth the couple of pounds they were asking for it.

I did get a copy of Halo ODST for £1.49 though and that's in perfect condition.

There was also some silly teenager with baggy jeans asking the poor girl on the counter if they had Mass Effect 3 - clearly with a smug grin on his face. Horrible.

In Stoke Potteries shopping centre there is one literally on top of the other. Same place, similar size, just a floor higher.
Afaik it is where one used to an Electronics Boutique and the other a GAME.
A similar thing can be said for Gamestation and GAME in a lot of places.

Both sold games at their maximum RRP, had staff who did not know about computer/console games and never had any decent deals ever.

I concur with this, at least when one was electronics Boutique, you got a choice between the two stores!

With shops laid out & spaced as they are, they are doomed to fail.

Wrong section. Aside from the fact I imagine most people round here already go online to buy games, GAME had a minimal selection of PC games if it even had one at all and my local supermarkets I'm fairly sure have a better selection of console games too.

You sure they weren't copies of FFXIII-2 preowned and FFXIII new because that woudn't make sense even at GAME...
