@DG - I'm not saying that it's perfect mate, far from it, there are tons of things that need addressing but I can see by frequenting the official forums that they are being worked on slowly but surely.

Where it gets frustrating and why we have to keep shouting "ALPHA" all the time is that some people just don't seem to get it and expect it to be fully playable and work like a full release. It's not just you, as an example, someone actually posted on WMD that one of the cars was "undriveable" because it made a loud clunking noise when he changed gear. Seriously, undriveable?!?!

All I'm saying is that IF anyone wants to carry on testing it prior to release then don't harp on about how rubbish this that and the other is on public forums, if you really can't stand it for some reason, go and play rfactor or something until it's ready.

If you have some valid concern, speak up politely and rationally on WMD and it will help everyone. By spouting unsubstantiated trollage, you're not helping the concept or any likelihood of the concept being used again in the future if devs decide that they really don't want their "dirty laundry" airing in public.

okay

i posted about the removal of time trials from the junior package and why was it done as it was a integral part of playing as lap times are very important in racing games. thats it. no sarcasm simply put.

i have notified the dons of your constant baiting murray .

It wasn't time trials that was removed from junior tool packs it was leader boards. The reason for this was explained as the game goes through too many builds over a month it to be a level playing field for all testers. Since juniors only get one build per month a situation could arise whereby juniors had a speed advantage over other tool packs by the time they get the latest build. Which in the case of competitions made it unfair and so it was decided that junior builds would loose leader boards.

It had nothing to do with removing something that was a fundamental feature of the final game.

DG's argument was that it was a required feature of the tool packs and that he'd had something taken away form him that he'd paid for and felt aggrieved by this.

I think at the time DG has misunderstood what he was actually paying for. I think he perceived it as paying for early access to a fairly complete game. An easy assumption given the quality of some of the early builds and the lack of many game breaking and minor bugs. The reality is your job as someone who's bought any level of tool pack is to use the tools you get given in any specific build and expect things to be removed permanently or temporarily, depending on what it is or how it effects the game.

Quality post Llama, believe this is a problem for many as the public have never been this involved so early before in a game and I feel that expectations have been raised too high in some cases.

i discuss my view other discuss theirs. i take others responses and except them.

this is a forum for discussion. ill make this last post in cars then leave you to it.

i dont think the handling is good at this current moment. this has been confirmed by ben collins and hamilton as posted on the offical forums for this game. they have said like me the handling is not optimum at the moment and needs work.

there you go. last post in cars.

Before I actually had access to the game I was a serious doubter. I'd payed both Shift games and couldn't believe that a development team with roots in the GTR franchise could make a game so fundamentally broken when played with a wheel. And I was vey vocal about that fact in the early pages of this thread. After reading more people posting how much better than Shift it was I decided to read more from SMS themselves. Once I understood what I was getting and what was expected of me I decided to get the €25 Team Member tool pack. I've since upgraded to the senior tool pack and have driven over 150 hours in the game. Yes the game has ebbed and flowed between handling I liked a lot to handling I haven't got on with at all. But if you go and read the forums you can see most if the time the developers are well aware of a lot of the issues.

My advice to anyone is to rad the build notes every time you download a new build. More often than not it'll give you an idea if what to expect and what's changed or not working.

Indeed they have, Ben is particularly concerned about the Formula B. Where he differs though from most is that he explains why and what should be done to put it right.
He also acknowledges the fact that there are currently several different tyre types which are not all optimum for their respective cars and that some are better than others.

It should be noted as well that the devs have recently added flat spotting so the tyre physics are intentionally warped at the moment so that people can test for added rumble/pull FFB when knackering a tyre.

I don't think you need to stop posting in the thread.

You just have to understand that most people that defend the game aren't defending it by saying its prefect. They're defending it by saying the game isn't broken, when you say it is. And as much as you don't like hearing it, the game is still in pre alpha development, nothing is set in stone, apart from whatever content is currently licensed.

Even when the game gets to a beta release, things like handling and tyre models can still be tweaked to make them the best they can be.

As I've said before, iRacing is constantly being updated in this area, as well as others.

I really should be getting on with some work.

As discussed in other threads, Steam has already been identified as a viable authentication & digital delivery platform. With this in mind, we're pretty excited to take exploratory steps with the Steamworks SDK by integrating it into Project CARS. Now as pCARS is within the WMD platform we won't be performing this work behind closed doors - we work openly which means you will be along for the ride and have the opportunity to test, suggest and feedback your experiences with these developments!

For those unaware, here are some of the benefits of the Steamworks platform:
Authentication
Friends system
Invitation system
Achievements
Matchmaking
Ranking system
Leaderboards
Ghost storage for all players
VOIP
DLC packages
DRM
Community portal
Digital delivery and automatic updates

You'll notice that a good few of the above we don't have yet within the WMD platform, notibly: Authentication (our current forum system is not viable for the final product), Friends, Invitations, Achievements, Matchmaking, Ranking, Ghost storage for all players, VOIP, DLC, DRM, and production-ready digital delivery of the game. The cost-savings for SMS to avoid reinventing these well-oiled wheels is significant. Additionally, Steamworks is a mature platform used successfully in thousands of games and has become to be widely accepted by the PC community.

How it will work:

In the beginning you will be need to install Steam and we will provide each member with a digital key. Within Steam, you will notice (when the structure is created) a number of download options available (configured as Steam "branches") from which you will select the one that matches your membership tier. The game will then download and furthermore will auto-update when new packages are uploaded.

Authentication will be the first feature to be ported over after which you will need to run Steam to launch the game. The standard WMD builds will cease and it will no longer be possible to authenticate via any other method.

Going forward, we will then migrate our existing features over such as leaderboards and ghost storage before touching on more advanced options such as friends, invitations, matchmaking and ranking (it is still TBD if advanced matchmaking/ranking is in scope for Project CARS).

We hope this direction is well received by you all. In summary, it is very good for the success and profitability of Project CARS, so it's good for us and good for you too.

There are bound to be many questions, so we will try to answer as many of them as possible (and an FAQ is already being prepared). For those of you wondering whether this will affect our title's multiplayer ambitions... it will not. We've examined Steamworks' capabilities very carefully and we strongly believe we can deliver large multiplayer fields via a Steamworks-integrated dedicated server app.

Sounds good to me.

Terrible build this week. Constant disconnections in the lobby and in-game and massive kerb bugs with Formula C (not sure if it affects other cars) :(

It completely baffles me how they can consistently make the game worse with every single update, it seems to be some sort of weird Electronic Arts Simulator where you increasingly attempt to alienate your customers more and more whilst still maintaining a business than an actual Video game :p

Except that you aren't a customer yet, you are a tester.

As I suggested earlier in the thread, read the build notes. It will tell you if something doesn't work or is worse and they actually know about it.

If not, make a report on the forums about your experience compared to other builds.

do you read the forum? if not please refrain from posting about stuff you are supposed to be testing , you are supposed to understand what exactly you are testing and why it feels so bad.
if you read the dev posts you would know the answers.

Hey guys the brakes are ruined why did they ruin the brakes? now when I'm on the bakes before a corner the car won't turn it just goes straight on it wasn't like this a few builds ago...
what is this EA? /me goes to play grid 2.

sarcasm ftw

BTW if you didn't realise they are playing with flash tread some tyres have the heat generation set to the max amount and this causes tyre wear.

it's exaggerated on purpose not because the devs don;t know what they are doing it's because people cry and don't read

Ive just had a blast on build494 and tried out the new road circuit "Bannochbrae3" and i love it, very flowing and fun to drive... I tried a few of the open wheelers around it and they all, except for the Formula A, felt very nice. The Formula A just doesnt feel right, all the rest just clicked, but the Formula A seemed to give no sense of speed and an inconsistent grip, but the grip could be down to the sense of speed issue, because it is too easy to go steaming into a corner way to fast or equally way too slow for the aero to be working.

allegedly build 500 was "skipped" because there was something in their own senior managers are allowed to see..

some people seem to think aston martin might be coming because someone posted a photo of an aston martin using the wmd twitter account.
although it's probably unlikely and someone maybe just bought a new car.

definetly odd to go from 499 and skip the magical 500 and go to 501 though?
