Just ordered myself a second hand thrustmaster ferrari f430 wheel and f1 2011.

Thinking about giving this and iracing a bash when it arrives, is the basic package with the monthly builds a decent option ?

i'm not going to be playing this hardcore so i don't think that not having access to leaderboards all the time is really going to bother me at all, and as i'm a complete noob to driving games with a wheel, i can't see myself getting bored quick enough to require a new build every 5 minutes.

Seems as if this game has some potential from what i'm reading, anything i need to bear in mind to mkae the expirence more enjoyable?

It's ok but the problem is if the monthly build isn't very good that month your stuck with it for a while.

Where does one go to become a team/full member? The pictures look awesome, and constantly updating with extra stuff would be great.

Edit: Just found out how to. Might give a monthly build a go and see. Has anyone made it work with an Xbox 360 Steering Wheel (if they'll work with a PC).

IIRC no, I think Microsoft promised drivers then never released them.

I had a great time playing around with it last night using the DFGT. The handling of the cars without any assists on is brutal, I found it much more fun with them on. You still have to be careful on the exits of corners and I still felt close to the edge. It was much more rewarding this way since I wasn't spinning out all the time and didn't have the urge to rage quit ^_^

I'm not keen on how the tracks and cars are named, will they be changed to official names in future releases?

Also some of the tracks, e.g. Suzuka, had very poor scenery, I'm guessing this is because it's an early build and therefore will be sorted in the future.

I was very impressed with the graphics on the cars, they looked great, it's a shame you can't rotate the view and have a look around it while blasting down a straight. Would also be nice to be able to see the car in the selection menu but again early build blah future blah...

Some of the screenshots coming out of the custom skilled 'F1' cars are just stunning. Going to take some seriously powerful graphics cards to get it looking that nice :o

you'd be surprised. i get 30FPS in crysis with a decent custom config, but with nearly max settings* i'm getting a solid 60FPS in cars (although, this goes down to 30FPS when there are 64AI on track near me). when you consider that CARS has very few optimisations in place, and almost no driver optimisations for CARS have been made, this is pretty impressive

most people with a big single graphics card can just about max it at 60FPS and 1080p and 30FPS when theres a full grid next to them

*max everything except for:
medium shadows, medium motion blur, 4x MSAA (higher than the config in crysis), 4x texture filtering, high reflections

The rest has pretty much been answered but not really this, the naming will only change to the correct naming as and when they get deals with the circuits, which is more of a commercial thing, e.g. most people are fine with the weird naming, and the circuits will want money.

I believe they've got a licence to laser scan, and presumably use the proper names, 4 of the MSV tracks (Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Snetterton iirc) but when they'll get around to that and actually implementing them in the game who knows.

Just installed this and had a little prattle around, (steering wheel isn't coming until later today so was playing with keyboard :D) couldn't drive any of the cars so have no idea yet what the handling is like, but my god does this game look incredible, the level of detail is absolutely staggering, in the 60's F1 type car teh detail in the engine from behind is insane.

Have to say if this plays 1/3 as good as it looks i'm going to be rather happy with how my 10 euros were spent :D

I'm sure I could do this when I was playing it the other day, using an Xbox pad I switched to an external view and just used the right stick to pan around (I think!).

I'm only a junior member but think the game is quite good even at this stage. Am I right in saying that the next build I will have access to should be on 6th April?

yeh you can, with the xbox pad anyway, not sure about the keyboard

Think I need to tweak the settings. Does it make use of crossfire do you know? It seems to struggle on my 5850s.

I don't think there will be a build released on 6th April because of it being a bank holiday in the UK.

Just checked on the forum. There are no new builds on the 9th and 10th but the Good Friday build on the 6th will be released as normal.

I have a single 5850 with the latest drivers.

I get 44-50 FPS with all settings High and one car and no-vsync.

If I have 15 AI I get 28-30 FPS at the back of the grid but it soon rises to over 40 FPS

I do get much slower FPS on some tracks unless I alt-tab to desktop and then back to the game. The improvement can be as much as 50%.

I tried Overclocking the card and CPU but it made so little difference I reset them Back.

I get Higher FPS in rF2 but with lower settings.
In rF2 if FPS drop to around 30 FPS it looks much worse than pCars.

Ultra/High everything for me 40fps single car about 32-35 with 11 AI cars, using latest Beta drivers.
