*******C.A.R.S - Community Assisted Race Sim*********

Had some better races online last night. There seemed to be mostly clean drivers, but there seems to always be one idiot ruining it for everyone. I have to say the improvements to the FFB and handling are great with my T500.

Wet race with mental AI, it's a ball ache just keeping on the track, much harder racing with mentalists. Good fun though.

Thrustmaster F430. Cheapest wheel I could find with decent FFB, quite impressed with the purchase so far.

Whoa, MP is available to Full Members! That's reason enough to upgrade.

I got the same one, Have you changed the settings or just race stock.

It's all stock, whenever I switch around to my pad though the sensitivity changes for all devices, so whenever I go back to the wheel I just need to make sure it's back to 100% (from 50%).

Playing against the AI is just carnage, no point starting anywhere other than last.

It' s like playing GRID online. :D
Innit, even starting last I had to restart about 10 times before I got a clean run for the video.

Hello

I leave a video edited with emerging reflections on cars and reflexes that come on the road when it rains.
The video is made from the build 324.325 and 326.
Hope you like.

greetings

When i used to do races with the AI i'd always just park it and just leave them to the first corner, absolutely no point trying to drive there with them, just leave them to come to a complete standstill and sort themselves out, and then spend 20 laps recovering the huge gap the lead car has as a result. Its more fun that way cos the fun is in the overtaking, so why pass 1/3 of the grid thanks to the fact that the AI isnt competitive when its bunched like that, its just exploiting a weakness to reduce the challenge, whereas letting them settle then going after them just gives you more cars to work your way around. Your extending the challenge a little further cos thats where the fun is IMO.

Havent tried it in about 6-8wks, and probably wont for a couple more, although i have been downloading it most weeks just not fussed to jump in just yet.

So what are the game modes like in this?

I've been toying with giving it a go for some time...

Is the Franchise mode any good?

Is there any customisation to cars in this game?

The only modes available at the moment are, free practice, time trial and AI single race. Multiplayer is available to full team members and above at the moment. The MP is very basic for now. You have to join a lobby before you know anything about the race. Then it's a randomised grid and race from there.

Just be aware that there's around 9 months of development left, so expect things to be unfinished and to experience bugs and crashes. Having said that, some if the tracks and cars are well in their way to being finished and there's a lot of game there already and it's getting better all the time.

I see. disappointing a little but it's only in alpha so it's be expected i guess.

thanks

its still fun as as above you can get a refund if you ask aslong as you havent owned the toolpack for a silly long time.
the AI is braindead idiots that crash a lot because noones working on them yet.

people are still doing the tracks , cars , weather effects , day/night transitions , lighting , light lighting , physics , tyre model , audio etc
its all in their but not finalised a lot looks good but its just placeholder stuff thats being improved all the time.

theres serperate sections and threads for everything so you can keep upto date with whats going on.

the track threads are cool as the people building/texturing them post nice little updates and renders of the models they are making
such as the guy making the capri posted these recently

I must say I like this so far. Hopefully it will all come to fruition and will not get dumbed down for console play. AI control for rolling starts & after the finish line is starting to worry me though. Will have to see where they go with it.

The new tyre model for formula A is very sweet though, and the wet track stuff is impressive. I know there are budget concerns for them at the moment, but fingers crossed.

Is that true? How the heck are there budget concerns, they're building the game themselves, paying... themselves. Aside from licensing, that 3.75m budget is really a 2.25m budget and 1.5m of their work to be paid back as royalties, i dont believe they've contributed 1.5m, and even if they did, they'd be giving it themselves back for their work, so it makes no sense.

In an InsideSimRacing interview with Andy Tudor, he claimed when a licensing opportunity comes along, they go to the forum asking if we want x, y & z and we decide, and can object even if they think it should be added  I must have missed all those occasions where we had any say, rather than just getting an announcement. That might be true to the 25,000€ paying people, it sure as hell isnt going to be true for the people he's talking to in a video interview though.
If they're happy to mislead people publicly in a video for a sim racing community channel in order to get people interested (aka paying), im not really sure how much we can really trust them to be honest. I wouldnt trust them on anything they claim until its in the game frankly.

Considering the C&A in CARS stands for 'Community Assisted' it really is limited to paying and testing, rather than our opinions being listened to and valued, they're building the game they planned, where paying for it and getting to test it along the way and find bugs. Thankfully its a decent game, but they're not really listening and implementing ideas like they try to make out, they're just ignored because they dont want help in those areas, just $ and bug testing :(

rhysduck:
Whats a 'franchise mode'? It'll have a career mode, supposedly a deep & meaningful one at that, where you'd start at the bottom of your chosen path, like single seaters being F.Ford to F1, or whatever the touring, endurance, stock car equivalent would be.

Theres no car performance customisations, nor will there be. There no in-game currency either if thats perhaps the franchise mode (buying cars, earning money, buying better cars etc?). You can skin the cars, and their original plans included implementing decals, which you'd buy from them ($$) which you could slap on the cars, but thats probably it as far as customisation goes for cars.

paul what id do is not think about the ethics :p i went down that road with this game ;) what you should do is buy the game if you like it and how it plays not how its marketed

i hate if im honest how the game was sold to people or the way its been marketed but ... if it gets a great game made im happy in end and cars is the best current car game hands down.

so id put the bs aside play and enjoy if you like it that's how i roll on this game :p
