Tiff Needell is at least as qualified as Ben Collins as a driver i'd say.

Tiff says Dirt 3 is most realistic handling out of all race games.
IRacing he says is rubbish :)

Thing is though, yeah he may be an experienced race driver but does it actually count for anything ?

In the review he did realism was only a small part of what he was looking for. Mostly he was looking for something that was fun and close enough to give the experience of driving. If he was looking for the most realistic racing game i dont think he would have put crash time 4 second ;)

His main complaint for iRacing was that it was boring. I also noticed that he had the driving aids on in forza and was complaining that he had no feeling of wheelspin... i wonder why :rolleyes:

as for iRacing being unrealistic, he's not the only person to complain about it, from what i've seen on the interwebs most racing drivers think iRacing is too unforgiving
 
so this game is for wheel owners only then as that's a little odd as I bet many pc gamers who'd want to play this won't have a wheel, seems strange as that cuts a huge percentage of possible players right out, loss of sales will be huge if it's a wheel only game. they'd be better off allowing for you to scale towards either gamepad or wheel IMO.

game however looks amazingly good, shift 2 with fxaa sweetfx and massive amounts of aa can look incredible if you ask me, but this is taking it to the next level...

I've played with, and been beaten by plenty of people using pads. As with all similar focused games it will be better with a wheel, but that doesnt mean it can't be played with a pad.

I'd also say that proportionally more PC racing gamers have a wheel than console.
 
I was reading on Reddit that those shots are not in game shots they are in engine shots. So really they are a tech demo for the game engine. Still look stunning though.

I got 23fps :D (rain kills your fps with reflections set to max though)
I only have an amd 1055t @ stock and an amd 7850 though.

people with a top endcard would probably get double that ;) and the games not even optimised yet they just started working on that.

by the time the game is released next gen cards will be here and people will easily be able to play with a really good framerate and have the game looking like that

Just looking at their forums I know they've had to stop taking more funding, but it seems to read that they've stopped the monthly updates for junior members? Or stopped adding any content? Is that right? Because that seems to go against what they were saying at the beginning, which made me decide to help fund in the first place.

edit. Please don't take that as ranting, just asking for clarification from people who've been keeping more up to date with this.
 
there is still monthly updates :confused:

read the forums on there there was a newer junior build recently.

Just looking at their forums I know they've had to stop taking more funding, but it seems to read that they've stopped the monthly updates for junior members? Or stopped adding any content? Is that right? Because that seems to go against what they were saying at the beginning, which made me decide to help fund in the first place.

I think the Evolution X FQ-400 is first 4 wheel drive in the game or something makes it different from every car so far? I can't remember what

They were worried about how the game engine would interpret the cars specifications at one point

(AFAIK they just tell the game engine all the cars diff , engine power , torque , rpm , suspension geometry etc and then it's up to the games engine so do a simulation of it, obviously they must be able to tweak it somehow if it doesn't seem right and nothing is final yet)

the thing is i have whined in this thread about the game ill admit that but it cause this game could be the best car game since the original gran turismos or one of the best created ever.

they need to adjust the steering issues though so if you are reading this mad studies sort it out ;)

if you don't like the handling leave a detailed report on the wmd forum where the people responsible will read it and take action if your feedback is precise enough

What are your actual steering issues? you say steering and not handling so I'm going to assume its something do to with how the cars respond to your wheel?

do you have a wheel that supports 920 degree? the games basic setup and how all the cars steering ratios are is based on a 920 degree capable wheel.
if you are not using a 920 wheel or have the ratio set to something other than 920 then maybe that is your problem
are you one of those people that sets your wheel to 360 or lower so its super sensitive ?


BTW on the WMD forum someone said how to get the force feedback to feel exactly like asseto corsa, I think it was by lowering the dampening by 30% or to 30%

i have a decent wheel yes it can do the required degrees for turning.

i love the game but also hate it. i dont post on there forums as its pointless there are many threads on the handling as you well know but they just ignore it or people like arknor for eg just try and cover over it

this is why i mentioned about my mates evo and what would be the excuse this time ;)

i have spent numerous hrs getting the wheel just right and then a car say spins out at 30 mph or something daft. even look in this thread there are people who laugh at the handling.

so before all the ocuk trolls dive in the game is good but its one factor is the handling which in a car game is a pretty big deal.

i tried the m3 recently and the ruf both handled like driving canal boats on the track and the focus just lol. ford focus has great handling yet its utter garbage in this.


ill have a mess about with the dampening but the last cfg i tried was by one of the lead people and it was utter garbage and if they in charge of the handling and cant set up his own wheel then god help us

they are the newest cars though so it's unlikely much has been done with their handling.

TBH I haven't really played it much for ages as I'm waiting for the game to progress a bit more and have a single player campaign but I never had any issues with my wheel.

I think theres a post on the forum somewhere that says which cars are in which state

All cars that don't really interest me much.

you don't seem to understand it's not a finished game yet and your comments come across as if your reviewing one that's ready for release.

The only thing anywhere near ready for release is the graphics and they still haven't implemented some of the graphics features they are planning to, the graphics guys seem to be concentrating on optimising whats done so far for the graphics engine and working on the AA modes to make them better

ah so 3/4 of the total cars are a waste of time at moment. thats probably why then.

im being critical on the handling because like any game when you test it you aim to get it more stable and better with each build.

everything else about cars is fine. the art the tracks everything is acceptable and could be released today and would be fine for public.

the handling though is actually worse than when the game actually started being tested ! so i dont know whos right in there giving them tips on this but it isn't working. its getting worse.

as the main part of a car racing game is the handling that's why i mention it. i think they should actually drop the silly tyre this and that and use the original set up and work on the extra content and cars. it would be a lot better .

it doesnt need to be over the top to be good . the best things are simple ideas that work.
