Ok found a DFGT on the old ebay and its on its way... £35 + £10 P&P so £45. Missus won't kill me for the cost, but will laugh out loud when I set it up...

Never used a wheel before, this'll be interesting.. I have absolute no idea how to get this working in game, I'll go and search for some help but how hard can it be?

should he here by tomorrow.. this will be fun, I looked over my desk last night and its sturdy enough for a wheel, so here i come, I'll get me flame proof suit out, don me racing gloves and put me crash helmet on and go racing and rip the tracks up..!! vroom..!!!

Or more likely I'll set it up, do rather badly as its not set correctly and spend the next three hours working out what I’ve done wrong.!

simple dl wingman drivers for it ;)

connect to pc play pcars leave at default and try cars. then you will start to realize what people like me and others say about the handling which cant be reproduced on joypad ;).

there are profiles on the pcars forums but i would go from default and tweak your own as i have tried many profiles and i find them actually worse than default :p

DFGT is a solid wheel, good buy :)

You'll have to mess around with settings and such for a while but once you get the basics done on the logitech profiler such as force feedback then it shouldn't take too long.

yea takes along time to find settings you like and to adjust to a wheel I was really crap when I first got one and it almost put me off using it.

pcars likes 900 degree wheels and I believe its what the steering ratios for all the cars are adjusted around by default.

You can keep using my account until I tell you I want it back.

theres a huge thread for DFGT settings here

I remember Iracing feeling pretty good with the default settings You should grab a trial to that if they still do one just to try out the handling so you have something decent to compare pcars to

I was going to say, I don't have many racing games to compare Pcars to other then the DiRT series, Shift 2, GRID 1 and F1 2012, so i'll go and grab a trial of iracing.

I suspect I'm going to be woefully poor at using a wheel for a few days. I will not be reporting back on my experience until i've got comfortable with using a wheel, and i'm looking around the net regarding DFGT wheels, and you can make some small changes to the pedals to make them less clicky or sticky etc and improve the feel of them, more like what real pedals are.. Apparently they do stick etc..

Looks easy enough to complete -

Quite looking forward to giving it a go. Pcars so far has been far above one of the better racing games I've played on PC for a while.. I've taken some excellent pictures during my time with it... Haven't really completed any races so to speak as the game is not complete, all I've been doing is practice, race some of the AI etc... look at the graphics and try the light changing.. Love the look of the game during dusk, they have to get le mans in this game, 24 hours, going from dusk till dawn... Would be epic.

try dirt series on the wheel makes a hell of a difference and even stock settings are brilliant on that wheel . i hold a few world records on dirt 3 :D

someone said iracing is like driving on ice and thats not off the mark. mx5 doesnt break traction quite as easily they made it out to be but its not unrealistic either; if it was raining heavy and the tyres were junk

I said it was like driving on ice :P
still a good game to get used to a wheel though as for me iracing worked well out the box without much tweaking unlike most other games where it's often hard to get your wheeling feeling just right

Never had any problems with my DFGT pedals sticking etc.

I just did the bungee cord mod to get a bit more feeling to the throttle because I'm not a fan of a feather like throttle pedal, most people seem happy with the throttle but bungee the brake pedal , but in my case the brake pedal spring is really stiff anyway

Wheel has actually just turned up here at work. Quite surprised by how small it is, I'm looking at it thinking it'll be the same size as a normal car steering wheel, I daren't clamp it to my desk and fire me laptop up, boss might get a bit upset with that..lol

I'll have a go either tonight or tomorrow, think I'm taking the missus out tonight. So I'll setup as soon as I can.

Quite looking forward to it. Hope it don't frustrate me too much at first.

The feel of iRacing is very dependant on your driving style and more so the actual car you are driving. For example, I find the Skip Barber car undriveable. It's supposed to be a low formula single seater and I can't keep it on the track and it is like driving on ice. The McLaren MP4-12C GTR 3 car is much easier for me to drive and although I'm nowhere near as quick as most, I can at least hold my own and finish in the top ten of a 45 minute race without many incidents.

Can't wait to give the new single seated a try. I find the rookie good fun to drive, so should be a bit quicker than that without being formula-b speed.

really want to play this...is there any way?

Not really.

Unless someone you know has an account they are prepared to let you use.

The sale of tool packs has been closed since the project became fully funded.

Upgrading of existing toolpacks has also been suspended while the FSA investigate whether or not they aren't running an unauthorised investment scheme.

SMS had agreed to reduce their investment in the project so that existing members could upgrade if they wished.

My guess is that the project will remain at it's current split of funding of 2.3 million Euros from the sale of toolpacks and the remaining 1.45 million Euros by SMS.

SMS were going to reduce there total investment to 1 million Euros.

The Gulf Formula is great. As expected, quicker than the rookie and much more drivable with it having 6 gears and a bit of aero. Max speed is generally 150mph ish.

The aero isn't work right at the moment though. I was getting done all over the place and finished 5 seconds off the pace looking at the best laps. Found out that you can run 0 front and rear aero and it still drives fine! So they haven't put that in right yet.

Ok well using a Wheel was a tad harder then expected. I’ve kept all settings as default. But I simply found myself driving woefully poor.

So, fired up F1 2012 and same, woefully poor, however after some intense perseverance I’ve managed to string together some decent lap times around Silverstone in Project Cars.

The car, the whole dynamics of the game feels much different with a wheel. Problem is, I don’t know if the car is going to lose control it just snaps and you spin out. Is this normal for a racing game? It was the same for F1 2012, driving a real car you can normally feel it about to lose grip, although, you can certainly notice the difference in acceleration and braking. Much, much easier to control acceleration around corners, you can easily maintain the same speed into, around and then out of the corner, or at least if you just stamp on the pedals, you’ll lock up, drive straight on and never take the corner.

It’s just practice, but to me project cars with a wheel is 100% harder then with a gamepad. Challenging for sure. I liked it, I like racing around Silverstone with BMW M3 touring cars, graphics, controls, cars that area already there.. Still like this game, needs more cars : - ) I want some Nissan Skylines, Ferrari's, more classic F1... lol

I doubt you'll see any Ferrari cars at all. SMS produced a Test Drive game for Atari that had all Ferrari cars in it from the 1950's onwards.

As for driving sims with a wheel. Bear I mind that in real life, much of what a driver feels is through the seat and not the steering wheel. In race sims you have to rely on audio and visual feedback as well as the feedback through the wheel.

In general for rear wheel drive cars you need to avoid full throttle while exiting corner and only apply full power when the wheels are straight. You could try left foot braking and carrying a small amount of throttle all the way through the corner, this helps reduce lift off oversteer. Using the bonnet cam view will also make it easier to hit the apex if corner and straighten the car quicker.

iv techman go to game play setting see if your settings are on pro , if are try novice for a start.

a wheel is a lot better but you need to learn with. once mastered youll do a lot better than joypad.

I'll have a look tonight, might have to wait until missus goes to bed, she did complain a lot over the weekend, as I totally hammered this game during the evenings once the baby was asleep, got well hooked on it..

I think its set to defaults, so i'll have to check out the settings. It was very tricky to drive the car.
