Can a vegan diet make me strong. Let's find out.

Nuts are fattening I only eat a handful a week. I have a tub of peanut butter that lasts months. I don't wanna load myself up with fat and be sluggish/get increase chance of heart disease. Too much fat is not good

You know, that's interesting because from an evolutionary perspective, humans deal with fat more efficiently than carbs... in fact, humans don't really need carbs to exist.

As previously, Nate, I have no problem with you being a vegan at all (in fact, I applaud you making a decision and sticking to it) but you really need to get a better understanding of some very basic nutritional concepts which - as a vegan - I would hope comes pretty soon.

It's for reasons like this that your typical vegan is built like a noodle.

I take back everything i have said in this thread. I'm starting the banana diet on Monday (100% srs) i think it's what i need to take my strength to the next level.

Again, thanks for enlightening me Nate.

Oh yeah to the plant lover guy that says vegans are hypocrites cause we eat plants LOL, plants don't feel pain they have no nervous system or brain. Even if they did vegans are eating 10 ten times less plants than meat eaters (the billions of cattle need to eat for you) so if you really care about plants so much you should go vegan right now!

how do you know plants don't feel pain? I don't think anyone knows for sure. some religions believe in reincarnation ;)

anyway is pain is the criteria for being a vegan? they stun the cow's head with voltage so it doesn't feel pain. I am not going to pretend it's a joy ride, but a man has got to eat

PS I am an omnivore - I need a side dish with my juicy mouth watering steak :p

Credit where credit's due, that was a solid set of 80kg. It's actually harder to stabilise a bar that doesn't spin, I'll leave you to work out why.

However, it's still inexcusably dumb to be so adamant that saturated fat is bad for you.

Oly bars spin. That's what they're supposed to do.

6hrs sleep is a decent amount of sleep.

Nuts are good for you, better that just bananas. Nuts are no more fattening than lots of bananas, plus they have more protein than bananas, and good fats.

Your 80kg bench was a good effort I will admit.

Do people bench with oly bars though? I always use the bar that doesn't move it's more stable.

Thanks form needs work. The bananas help me get over 3500 calories a day. I have no idea the exact level I'm eating. Sometimes it's not that much but I'm working on it.

Fruits and veggies are a better source of carbs.

I need to work on my sleep. I'm sick of under sleeping. Gonna aim to sleep by 10 p.m every night. If I get more sleep I'll be able to give way more effort in the gym and my life.

you're one of those vegans who has no idea what he's talking about and what you body actually needs.. you spit out a lot of dumb tosh out of your mouth..

"I don't wanna load myself up with fat and be sluggish/get increase chance of heart disease"

LMAO.

No mate. What I meant by nuts, is they are high calorie, contains healthy fats and are high protein. All in all a very good food source for BULKING. Im not saying go insane with them, but they should defo be on your menu especially as a vegan. I doubt your diet has enough level of fat in it, hence the suggestion. I wouldnt be too concerned about a little fat gain, especially if it allows you to maintain your lifts and facilitate lifting gains.

The problem with Nate is the amount of BS he comes out with overweighs the truth half the time so we never believe the little honest bits. Such as the bench press.

This is either calculated trolling or ...well..

Does add joyment to my morning coffee though. Nice bench.

Thanks for the props!

lunarwolf - I never knew anyone who cared so much about plants, are you People for the Ethical Treatment of Plants? Plants don't scream when you saw them in half and another thing you can save a plant by sawing it in half. You saw a cow in half, see if it grows back stronger.

icecold - Saturated fats aren't bad, if you want a heart attack or stroke.

Freefaller - Babies sleep longer than that, do you need the same amount of sleep as a little baby? Sleep six hours if you want but I prefer to have high energy levels long term. Nuts are no more fattening than lots of bananas? LMAO at people telling me I don't know anything about nutrition. Suddenly everyone on the entire earth has PHDs in human physiology but they don't the know difference between fats and carbs lol. Nuts have over 50% of calories from fat. You can get obese from them if that's all you eat. Bananas, you can't, they have less than 5% of calories from fat.

grudas - How can you tell anyone about health when you're smashing down meat eggs and dairy. Then when someone eats too many fruits and veggies people like you say "OMG WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING, HE'S GONNA DIE FROM ALL THE HEALTHINESS".

opethdisciple - The body only needs 10% fats and that's just a safe zone, 5% is enough. Nuts should be in your vegan diet if you're not getting enough carbs in, it's all about getting the carbs in. They're our best fuel source and fats should be brought down because they will get stored as fat in the presence of all that sugar from carbs.

Your body doesn't even use fat for energy. The body turns fat into glucose for energy anyways called gluconeogenesis. So basically when you have extra fat you waste energy to use a little bit of energy which is why fat source is a slow source of energy. It's an energy source for survival and that's all and it does last longer than pure carbs but won't have any energy to really so anything but survive. If you have access to the internet you don't need to worry about survival.

JoeF1 - Hey why would I BS, it's all the people who want your money are the BS. I was reading a kickboxing magazine at the gym and it had supplement adverts for everything! Creatine, iron, B12 I thought wow must be a vegan kickboxing book.

mrthingyx - You're telling me to grasp some basic nutrition concepts but then tell me how humans deal with fat more efficiently. Every cell in the human body runs on glucose and/fructose. The brain exclusively. So why consume an energy source other than that? Like I said, if you consume fats of carbs you're just going to end up using glucose (carbs) anyways.

The body can use fat (and protein) and convert it due to oxidation to acetyl-coa which can then be converter to ATP by the cells, however to much raises cholesterol. Glucose is the best source of energy, it's what our cells crave, that's why so many fatties binge up on junk food to try and get something sweet full of sugar. Stop eating all that crap and eat fruit, it's what your body is REALLY craving, natural fruit what we're meant to be eating as humans.

Today's workout

Squat - 80kg 5 x 5
OHP - 50kg 5 x 5
Deadlift - 130kg x 5

Added some weight on my rows after getting the form down now doing 75kg.

Just wow at the level of understanding in your replies to everyone there about fats. You clearly need to go away and do some very basic reading in to how the body deals with fats then come back and have a proper discussion about it. Try just googling ketogenisis and do some reading and that will only give you the slightest of insights in to why your so wrong.....

There are actually no words suitable to describe how dumbfounded I am by how you think fats work. The best bit is that not only do you have next to no idea about it, but that you are so certain you know best!

So is the plan to go on another merry-go-round of Nate posting trolling rubbish, people being incredulous and rising to it and the thread continuing in the same rubbish way it has or is there any movement towards locking it and ending this farce?

That ones pretty simple actually and easy to prove...

Don't eat any carbs for the next 24 hours or even the whole week. See how much energy you have, I've done this and I felt like a zombie. Without carbs your life is *****.
Running your body on ketosis is like running through cement. It's a diet that doesn't work, like the atkins diet. It's based on telling people good things about their bad habits. You need carbs to thrive.

Ketogenisis is just a backup survival mechanics that allows us to eat the flesh of other human beings to avoid starvation. Your body can convert fat into carbs from ketosis so you can survive. A cow could eat a duck to survive but it's not the best option. Like I said we have access to computers, we aren't in a survival mode.

High carb diet has the best weight loss, best energy, best immune system.
Loads of people on the paleo primal diet say limit your carbs or they make you fat. It's total nonsense. You get fat eating fat, not carbs.
