Can a vegan diet make me strong. Let's find out.

icecold - Yep studies are manipulated but you can't deny what you see around you. As for anthropomorphised feelings. It's that Descartes Cartesian way of looking at animals, like they're machines... it's outdated. Animals are not inanimate, stupid objects, who can't think and feel. Is slavery - owner, victim, profit, domination - exclusive to the human race? Is the earth not enslaved too, it's oceans, forests and the earth itself become victims?

wedgie - Slaughtering billions of animals every year is not nature, that's not what is suppose to happen. We are completely abusing our position in the food chain. I'm against the meat and dairy industry not you. Also we are not animals nor caveman or women anymore we need to stop acting like neanderthals. No it doesn't bother me that animals kill animals, it bothers me that we are abusing them, raping them, enslaving them. It bothers me that people don't think animals go through the same things, emotions that we go through.

icecold - Yes murder. Other than psychological and physical abuse, torture, dismemberment and murder, what else do you think happens to animals inside of a slaughterhouse?

Okay so go outside and kill a squirrel, with your barehands no tools. I want to see you use your carnivore feet and catch it, pounce on him and catch him in your mouth. No tools, weapons, traps. You don't get to be a cheater and a fake carnivore. When you are done killing the squirrel in your mouth, eat it. I mean all of it, you don't get to choose what you want to eat and you don't get to choose to cook it either. You're a real meat eater. Animals eating other animals are designed to do it, they have the intestine length for it. They have a short intestinal tract, so they can push decaying and rotting animal flesh through quickly. Animal protein, cholesterol, saturated fat, trans-fatty acids, which is why it is impossible for any genuine meat eater to ever, clog their arteries.

Skeptic -

Remember I'm not your enemy here, just trying to reconnect people with animals. We all used to love animals as a kid, true animal lovers and friends to the animal kingdom. They used to make us laugh and smile, they made us happy as kids. Yeah I might sound like a five year old but remember there was a time in your life when you would do anything in the world to make your pets happy. To protect them from cruely, or at least acknowledge the cruelty they were receiving. If someone was mean to them infront of you, you'd of screamed and cried. Because you understood right form wrong - when it came to the way animals are treated. Until the meat and dairy industry told you differently.

If a cow kicked you then we'd have to look at it from your view point, the victim. I'm sure if cows mass enslaved us we would be screaming for justice.

This is brilliant.

And you say you aren't preaching?

I'd protect my dog from cruelty, she's my pet. However i don't get all up in arms about eastern countries eating dogs because guess what, they aren't my pets, they are food to them. Such is life, deal with it.

You're the only one here who has been brainwashed. It's worse than fad diet marketing in here

I'm not talking about actual studies being manipulated, I'm saying that results and conclusions can be poor. These poor or outdated results can then be cherry picked by anyone who wants to further their agenda.

The extent to which animals think and feel is purely speculative.

One of the more amusing aspects of certain vegetarian views is that they often seem to come from a squeamishness towards the killing of anything cute. Don't give a **** about general welfare across the board, or ecology, but don't hurt the bunny with a cute face (which you are hard wired to find cute...).

No, not murder. Murder is exclusive to humans as it is defined as unlawful killing, despite it being a lovely emotive word that can be used to stir up a discussion...

The "go and hunt and kill it yourself" argument is incredibly weak. For one, I'd willingly do it if circumstances demanded it. Secondly, any squeamishness that anyone would feel is a result of not being exposed to the experience before, and social influences can fill the void and make people very sensitive. This is all learned, and can be unlearned.

Yeah everyone hates a preach vegan, except the animals. I haven't been brainwashed, I'm actively aware of what is going on.
Animals don't give a **** about you either. If you are capable of nourishing them, they'd kill and eat you just as quickly as anyone else. Stop anthropomorphising.

You go in a lions den, see it rip **** out of you within minutes.

Stop preaching, no meat eater gives a ****, I am going to eat some chicken purely out of this thread. I was having a salad, but I've changed my mind. Washing it down with 2-3 pints of milk and a yoghurt afterwards.

I had 2 packets of pork scratchings and a tin of mackerel whilst reading this thread. It was like a little commemoration of my own, to the thread.

The meat wouldn't be alive at all if there wasn't people to eat it, so at least meat eaters let the animal live for a while. If everyone was a vegan, there would be far less animals in the world.

Is it crueler to let something live, then to never let it exist in the first place?

icecold - That's what I meant as well by manipulation.

Speculative? If we all understand that animals use their eyes to see, ears to hear, mouths to eat, noses to smell, legs to walk, feathers to fly, fins to swim, genitalia to procreate, bowels to defecate. Are you telling me that they can't also use their brains to think, feel, be rational, be aware and be self-aware?

No murder is murder. The only reason it's exclusive to humans is because we believe that our species is so more special, so more superior than others, that we're the only ones that count, and we're the only ones that matter. So, correct me if I'm wrong, but that line of thinking, that thought process, that is the basis of all forms of discrimination. One group saying and thinking that they are more special than everyone else, and they proceed to exploit them, oppress them, denying them their right to be free.

As for the squirrel, but circumstances don't demand it. I can have hot dogs without causing harm to another being, or just eat things that are truly natural, like fruits and vegetables or beans and lentils.

The I'd love to see people eat raw flesh from the bone, down to the bone with nothing left but the bones, day after day after day. I'm sure they would start turning to other sources of nutrition.

Animals have done nothing to harm us. You don't get to have freedom when somebody else doesn't. Stop discriminating against another species.

Wasn't the animal, he never meant it.

Stop it, please stop it.

These things; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_giant_hornet kill on average 40 people a year. Do you honestly need me to go on?

I don't care that your a vegan, nor does anyone here either I'd imagine you can do what the hell you want. Just pipe down about it.

We aren't lions, we are privileged to have a choice, to not cause abuse.

Syla5 - You speak like we own animals, they aren't our property. And what life is it to live? How would you feel, if the day that you were born, somebody else had already planned the day of your execution?

The root cause of world hunger - meat eating societies. 65% of the worlds grains are set aside every year to feed 53 billion land animals that are killed every year on this planet. The number one cause is animal agriculture.

There would be less animals because we wouldn't be mass raping and producing them. There would be less dead animals that sufferer immense pain. You honestly think that if everyone was a vegan animals would be worse off?

MrMoonX - Contrats, nice to see a vegan in the thread :) Do you have any blog/log about that, what you ate and how you achieved it?

Begbie - Why are you using that in your argument? We can keep ourselves safe from animals without abusing them. We are a technological advanced species who can live off mother earth. Also cows just want to eat grass and chickens aren't going to peck your eyes out when you sleep. And come on you care a little otherwise you wouldn't join the discussion.

Tenzo - That could be good depending on your view of him, if you think he's a **** then let me list some other vegans/vegetarians. Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Plato, Sir Isaac Newton, Vincent Van Gogh.
Thomas Edison
"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages."

Catch you guys later, it's sunny out and I gotta get myself some vit D! Have a good afternoon :)
