Can money buy happiness?

Of course it can, depending on the circumstances.

Example scenario:
If you are generally happy with life but being in a low paid job is stopping you doing or buying the things in life that make you happy then of course if you come into money you will be able to buy the things that make you happy.

Obviously everyone's situation is different but if the above applied then yes money can buy happiness.

In my case, it certainly would.

I'm already content to an extent. What I struggle with is lack of spare time. Having money would enable me to work less hours or give up work entirely and concentrate on what actually is important to me. Knowing my kids will be able to goto University if they want and to come away without debt, that would make a huge difference too.

It depends on the circumstances in which you have the money. i.e if you run a successful company and have to work 70 hour weeks, it wouldn't make me any happier. Lotto win, then certainly.

I'm unhappy that I'm living at home saving for a deposit on a house, a lotto win would fix that right away. I'd also like a nice new car too as mine is starting to go wrong. :D

Thread needs more comments stating that money doesn't buy happiness but it can remove the barriers to happiness please.

Money solves a lot of life's necessities and even problems and offer luxuries but it doesn't buy happiness.

it does imo but not the be all end all.

Dont you feel happy whenever you spend money and book a holiday to an exotic place and also take your DSLR that you also spent some money and smile and be happy taking pics?

Anyone that says it doesnt give you happiness is wrong IMO

Money can buy blow jobs. What man isn't happy with blow jobs?

Happy now... :p

Those that say it doesn't haven't lived poor. Or as a student. You try giving a student a load of money. That'll make em' more the happy.

Yes money buys a better life up to a point but it also requires a level of intelligence and imagination to wield properly.

We have all seen the lottery winner who goes overboard materialistically only to find they are still the self loathing person they used to be.

Money can definitely buy happiness. What could possibly be better than having everything you want without a worry in the world?

Being social creatures, having close social bonds and loving relationships with friends, family and the people around you bring far more intrinsic happiness than just having money to acquire material items.

This documentary was a good watch to show examples of this from all around the world http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1613092/

Yes and no. If you are an inherently miserable person, money won't change much. But if you are content or happy overall, then money will mak you moreso.
