Can money buy happiness?

Up to a certain point money will buy you happiness for sure. It's around the average wage maybe a little bit above. 30-50k. I think more than 50k a year wouldn't make you any happier, you probably just bump your buying choices up a level but you wouldn't necessarily be any happier.

And yes the lack of money will seriously make you unhappy.

I would be unhappy with out money. Try attracting the opposite sex without it.

When we so having no money what are we talking about? DO we have money to buy food? or are we surviving on benefits.

Very few people survive on benefits, most flourish. It's the blue collar working man who works 9-5 that struggles to survive.

Go go **** government.

Money can buy things that make you happy, it can also prevent things that would otherwise be a cause of depression (i.e. mounting debts).

It can't however tackle issues of human sadness that can't be solved with money (family+friends dying, relationships breaking down etc for example)

End of discussion.

Half the thing surrounding buying stuff is the 30 second buzz of actually purchasing said item and being able to afford it. After a while the novelty wears off and you're back to your old problems. A bit like drugs and drink really.

Although, having enough money to get by is pretty much essential, because problems + homelessness + not knowing where your next meal comes from, isn't a nice life. Enough money to get by keeps you out of dark places.

Why does it seem like things that matter keep going up, homes, energy, food and transport, while consumer junk is more affordable?

I feel like the system is setup in such a way to keep the majority down at a certain level, working and entertained, it's no surprise when it's inherently selfish in nature and not for the greater good, it will only get worse if something isn't done, it's greedy, wasteful and unstustainable, doesn't help that there are limited resources and possibly over population in the future.

All that happens is your expenses keep you with your salary. So at 30K you might have a small, but nice, house and an average car. At 50K you have a better house and a nicer car. This treadmill keeps up until you die for most people. It is the weird social pressure that is "Keeping up with the Joneses"

Things don't bring happiness.

You, me, and others are right about the opposite end though. A serious lack of money brings unhappiness.
