Can my GM stop me from buying stock from the store??

ahh yeah thats going to be machining then.

Mechanical engineering was never my strong point. :)

I know, milling is just weird science! Who would've thought that any company could make something out of a single piece of aluminium?? Welcome to the 21st Century!

Next they'll be telling us that they can make car tyres that don't deflate if you get a puncture.

So how many other laptops (apart from the MacBook Pro ;) ) are made this way? Also if it was so easy why hasn't it been done before?

Your sarcasm fails to impress almost as much as the new price of the MacBook.

It's relativly easy to do, it's just drilling out a hole in the brick, but theres no reason too, it's wastefull expensive and takes a long time, just getting a single sheet and stamping/folding it is much quicker and simpler.

Macbooks, like most laptops, are made in China\Taiwan by cheap contractors like Compal and Quanta anyway, so Apple aren't fooling me...

Why are you so desperate to get it? It's a laptop for christs sake, it's not like the guy is depriving you of food.

And no, there's nothing you can do. A shop manager could refuse to sell anything if they wanted to, it's just an invitation to treat.

Mate its like having a new toy that youve been waiting and waiting for, you save up all the cash - they have one in your local store and BAM - manager wont sell you it...

The worst thing that can happen is that he sells you it and then sacks you for insisting he does so. Then you've got a **** piece of kit and no job.

The next worst thing that can happen is that he sells you it next week but doesn't sack you. Unfortunately you've now got a **** piece of kit which you had to wait for and you still work for the purple pillocks.

I'm struggling to see how this can end well.

I've had a few laptops acer, sony, hp etc and none of those have come close the build of the macbook i've got. The only one I'd see as comparable from a build perspective would be IBM/Lenovo.

If I wanted a cheap 2nd hand one, I'd def get a thinkpad - build, stability & support have been very good. If you compare them as new then there is no price difference between equivalent Mac and IBM models

Personally if I wanted a laptop I'd buy used, far better value (especially models from 2003-4). They also actually last more than 2 hours on battery which is the whole point of a laptop :p

My Macbook lasts far more than 2 hours on battery, more like 4-5 (mind you it is the third battery it's had).

I was impressed by the updates etc that I could get from the Lenovo site for a laptop that would have been mid range when released and is 4/5 yrs old. So may well get a 2nd hand tablet soon
