Canadian Grand Prix 2012, Montréal - Race 7/20

I wouldn't give McLaren to much credit on strategy, they managed to completely screw up Buttons strategy both yesterday and today.

But then Button driving like a granny didn't help either, but 3 stops, what were they thinking?

I doubt 3 stopping was a "strategy", but more an attempt to give Button a car he can actually drive (different tyre pressures/wing angles).

guys...

Mclaren made the correct strategy call.

Absolutely.
This is where the computers came up with the best strategy (on paper).
Ferrari and Vettel were evolving their strategy, on-the-fly and it didn't quite work out.

In any case, we now have 3 drivers in the lead of the WDC all within about 3 points of eachother, so it is very close between these 3 drivers. This will give us an exciting run in the championship.

And lets not forget the 7th different winner in 7 races.

Get in! Well done McLaren!!
I was almost crying with laughter watching Alonso go backwards.

Tell you what though, i've said it before and i'll say it again, Perez is a top performer given it's his debut year. One to keep an eye on.

Not only is it close, but they are three drivers who seem to be at their best at the moment and very level headed. Silly mistakes seem less likely hopefully leading to some really good racing.

To be fair, until around lap 65 3rd still seemed fully on the cards. The tyres just dropped away massively right at the end.

Indeed.

I think in one lap Perez took out 3.5s, from Alonso. I don't think Ferrari expected that sort of dramatic drop-off. But this is the conundrum, as shown today, Vettel and Ferrari do not yet understand their tyres and lack the ability to reliably predict their performance/longevity.

And what about MSc. By far the unluckiest driver currently in F1. He certainly used up all his luck in his first career.

Isn't this Perez's 2nd year?
In his debut (race) last year, he was the only driver to successfully pit once, while everybody else had to make 2 pitstops. That is the point we knew that Perez is very good at nursing his tyres (which is becoming more and more crucial in F1, these days).

Yeah, about that, what have Merc managed to screw up there? The DRS is designed to 'fail' in the down position. I think its even in the regulations and a requirement of the design that it does this, yet it seemed well and truly stuck open?

From a safety stand point I hope the FIA take a look at it.
