Thankfully the son of the US president is not an England cricketer so the law of double standards kicks in and he gets a pass from all of the media and isn't cancelled.

It's all the Trump supporters seem to have on the unimpeached, unconvicted and allowed to run a charity, current President of the USA.

For people that complain about "cancel culture" they sure love it.
 
What is cancel culture? A lot of it is excessive reaction to things that you normally wouldn't give a **** about, but happened to see it on your social feed.

Companies think they will lose money, and remove or distance themselves from that flash in a pan. Sometimes this is utterly unjustified, sometimes it is.

Seems to me 90% of the cancels are all about money and fear of losing it due to gossip magazine level BS where people didn't engage their brain.

Few days/weeks later people forget it even happened.

We are all still adjusting to the new experience of social pressuring media.

Let's be real. If some of the conversations we had with friends ever got out, we would be cancelled to. Inappropriate jokes, dirty talk. No one is a saint, but we all like to pretend that these people should never have been fallible.
 
Cancel culture is literally just social stigmatisation, it's been going on for as long as animals have had social hierarchies.

The biggest culprit in human society in the last few millennia have been religious puritans and they still are, the only difference right now is that those structures are collapsing under their own corruption and other social hierarchies have moved into the vacuum with their own puritanical ethos.

This is the real issue for me. Selectively holding people to unrealistic standards is just hypocritical and scummy behaviour. Who cares that someone sent an inappropriate text 10 years ago? Unfortunately society laps up that kind of crap so I'm not sure it's going anywhere.
