Captain Marvel (2019)

Just saw a reviewer call it Captain Feminism the movie, and that was a review from a very left leaning female Youtube reviewer (Grace @ Beyond the Trailer)

I just hope she does not just come along and mary sue Thanos as that would **** me off.

Looking forward to watching it with my own eyes and making my own mind up about it, because at the end of the day, it's a personal thing watching a film. Not listening to some reviewer who has probably some agenda anyway.

Few reviews coming out, seems Brie gives a bland performance, really shocking.

Hope Disney dont expect her to carry phase 4 once Evans and RDJ are out.

The funniest thing was her Instagram video of 9 months progress of training hours everyday, 7 days a week that allows her to do a grand total of 5 pull ups haha. Anyone would have been better at this point.

Off to watch Saturday morning, only doing 2d as the times seem to be allover for this for some reason compared to other Marvel releases.

She looked really wooden in the trailers and that got blown up into why "She didn't smile", no it's that she didn't show any emotion at all! And after the stupid things she said i was in two minds about watching it in the cinema. I have decided i will but i won'd be rushing to do so. When i do i'll give my unbias and totally honest opinon on this.

Sadly it seems many people have already made their mind up and are looking for confirmation bias.

39 reviews and it's higher on metacritic than Ant Man, Iron Man 2 and 3, Thor, Thor: The Dark World and is currently the same score as Captain America: The First Avenger and Avengers: Age of Ultron and 1 behind Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2

Having a higher score thank the Dark World is hardly a grand achievement :p!

$150m budget, less than I thought. So it only needs to make ~$400m to start making profit.

I've said in other threads that even the worst marvel movies are watchable and this seems to be reviewing as more of a mid-tier movie. Pretty much what you get with most 'origin' marvel movies.

Thor: The Dark World has a score of 54 on metacritic.

I really like Iron-Man 3, though I know some don't.

Anyway, I'm hoping to see it this weekend and will give you my thoughts. More excited by Endgame, obviously.

noticed yesterday that youtube reviews that didnt say it was outright rubbish getting mass downvoted
proper internet toxic manbaby campaign going on for this one

Marvel films are TV series quality, none of them are going to be "top 10 films ever" lists but always worth a watch (even the worst ones are watchable eventually on netflix or something)

It's fair to pull people up on confirmation bias. But Black Panther and Wonder Woman both scored very highly on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes and were good superhero movies, no more. I imagine we're going to get a workmanlike film very nicely polished but over scored for all the usual virtue signalling reasons.

I will be watching this because of Avenger End Game otherwise I'd wait for the Sky. I hope it's better than I expect.

That's the biggest problem I have with YouTubers.

People say they are more truthful/trustworthy than mainstream reviewers who have been around for years.

This isn't the case at all IMO, if a Youtuber knows they can expect blowback from their followers for giving an opinion that contradicts the expectation, then they would possibly conform to the expectations

They're livelihood literally depends on keeping their subscribers happy, whereas someone writing for Empire magazine doesn't have that same pressure and are free to say whatever they want.

All the reviews that I have seen (from reputable establishments, not clickbaity you tubers / nobodies) have been very positive.

Definite confirmation bias from the children here.

Black Panther was easily the worst marvel film, so the political agenda involved in films nowadays seems to be more important than if the film is actually any good.

Black Panther was easily the worst marvel film

Black Panther was okay the thing that makes it the worst for me, was the CGI which was horrendous

Still they're not as bad as Foxes attempts at Marvel movies so I guess there's that

As for Ms Marvel reviews, why are people posting critic reviews like they actually mean anything ?

I'm contemplating a day out in London to see this on a stupidly large screen rather than my tiny local. It's cheap enough to do but so time consuming from where I live...
