Car stolen and impounded, write off - pretty much

Why are they going to take your car away and then store it on their premises for free? Think about it, please. Use the tiny brain that you have. They need to cover their costs, and will recoup them from you.

Why should he pay for something that is completely out of his control though?

Someone has to pay for this obviously, still a bit crap though.

A person posted on motors in need of advice/help.
Most posters chose to make fun and generally crap out the thread.
A couple gave him some good advice.

Of course you wouldn't think the OP was bat **** insane.

I've read the thread 4 times and I still don't really know what is going on.

His car got stolen, his car was seen abandoned and he informed the police, the police sent a recovery company to get it. The recovery company want a big fee from the OP to release the car (which is now worth ~£300 due to all the damage caused by the thieves) and say the fee will increase if he does not pay.

He does not want to involve the insurance as his premium is £3400 a year as he has no NCD yet and lives in a bad post code. He is currently unemployed and paid for the insurance via his savings. The car was worth £1260 before it got nicked but is now worth about £300.

The garage/company holding the car are threatening to "dispose" of it at his cost if he does not pay for the storage/release they are demanding and so he came on here looking for help/advise with the scary/confusing situation he has found himself in and the majority of people decided to just ridicule him for no reason.

Think that pretty much covers it.

Please be supplying a link to said thread thankyou please!

It got deleted, but it wasn't this guy, and that guy didn't say it was pee'd on either, somebody made that up while everyone was spam trashing the garage holding the car hostage in order to bring people from Google to the thread so they could see how bad the garage was.

Surely if it was stolen/recovered it's an insurance concern, not yours? That's why we pay a lot of money to them.

They can do their own negotiating, you shouldn't have to.

The only issue is, the longer the car is in storage, the higher the cost. Get your insurance people on the case.

I think once things get sorted, it's best to start afresh though with all the problems you've been having. Get some money together for a decent car and then transfer the insurance over to the new vehicle..if you need a car.

Kind regards,

David

Thankyou. I assure you this isn't a joke, it's serious, I even sent a camshot of the letter.

Basically this is the case.

1) INSURANCE: There's over £1200 saved not even using the insurance as I get a NCD so my price DROPS. I wish people would stop frigging going on about the £3400 - I compared the price for awhile and it was £3400-£5k to INSURE so I got the cheapest even if it's laughable, EVERYTHING was done legitally, no little white lies to drop it - all by the book. and if I write off maybe I'll even end up paying more again ontop as your premuims raise. Usually for you guys who pay £400 for a £1k car then yeah it's fine but in my case it isn't. Why people insult me over this I don't know, should I lie? or move here, become a female?

I basically did it by the book and compared across different compare sites. I spent since I passed my license @ 17 saving to buy a car and insure it only to have it all wasted, which I am willing to accept right now but the last thing is to end up paying even more.

2) police. I contacted them over this yesterday as someone mentioned POLICE BILLING and they never heard this!! insted said you'll have to pay it seems. When they said the car was being taken for forensics they did said a garage but you would THINK! they would mention of mentioned that there would be a cost? right? I mean it's not like a tenner or somethnig it's hundreds. So it's not petty money.

3) Garage. I've not spoken with these people yet but I will to make them sure of the situation. I don't even have the money that could even be upto a grand in total for a distroyed car that might be worth £300 or so only to waste more money+time selling it. Basically I think I should mention it but my mum told me, just leave it and see the "distroyed at full value to you" as a scare, in the same area someone had the same problem and just ignored all the letters and the car was distroyed and no one came for the "full cost" and this persons car wasn't insured (he drove it for 6month before police caught him and only then it was just taken+stored for a release fee but no payments were ever made).

I've asked a number of people, boards and people are even amazed I should be made to pay a penny for my own car back. I do understand a garage is a garage/bussiness and police are police it's thier job - I get it. But I don't feel so sorry on them as the actual cost I am sure to them to get a car from over the road and store it (hence why I will tell them tomorrow so they know before I get billed 3months of £20/day storage £3k, then other fees. If the police some how get involved that would be next to stupid as they pretty much over the phone told me it wasn't a police matter it's the garages till I pay, why would it be one when I don't?

I bought THAT car because I liked it and it was only 2-3 insurance group and THAT was £3400 so if I get anything like........? it would cost a lot more - these 2 factors made the car purchase worth it. I don't even need a faster/bigger car as we are a small family and is usually 2-3 people. Did I mention it was a first car?

So it's pretty much costed £5k in total (including that I had about £600 of parts over the time I had it). I think if I don't get the insurance involved, what I got today is PROOF of NCB 1yr which is what may in the future still get my cost down.

Now on another board someone HAD THE SAME problem with a motorbike and it was impounded however he contacted his police and they billed it. Another motorbike (maybe a bike thing) was in watchdog someone said too.

I am going to citazins advice next week, unless the garage gun me down with uzis by then. Meeh gotta keep some humor eitherway.

as to the car that was hostage and the guy peed one - I have NO idea on it - thinking of another guy if you wanna supply a link do so if not start a seperate thread or something.
