*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

application of cleaning products onto the dash is the problem issue personally - if you have a dash with textured surface really need a mousse type product and a brush too,
so I've been using foreign brand called abel in an aerosol can

I'd go right ahead and suggest that you should never apply directly onto any surface in the interior, causes too much overspray, spray directly onto a microfibre or brush and agitate then.

mousse is fairly targetted / precise - just watched this video - I've just used soft toothbrushes but this guys going for it with heavy bristles

Gave my dads MINI some detailing love as its just had a life of local hand car washes and was looking a little worse for wear.

Poorboys Black hole
Topped with Autoglanz Prizm Wax
Squid Ink Trim detailer (supposed to be long lasting)

That looks very useful. I tend to just use a microfiber cloth, which isn't all that effective on a dirty car.

I was quite skeptical of them, thinking they were abrasive but it's just like a big flat brush with tiny soft bristles. Makes doing door cars and dashes so much quicker. I'd still keep them away from paino black/gloss trims though.

Can anyone recommend a Ceramic coating for a new car?

My GR86 is coming in September and have ordered new green and orange hexlogic pads and have meguiars 105 & 205.

Normally before I would do 205 followed by 105 on my DA then seal with Collinite 476 but fancy giving ceramic a go. As it is a new car hopefully I can get away with a quick clay bar, 205 and protection.

I got a £100 Halfords Voucher for my birthday so thinking of this?

Or is there a lot better on the market?

Kicking myself. Cleaned the car yesterday morning as it was cool and a bit cloudy. The second I'd started washing, the clouds went and it just got hotter, and hotter, and hotter.
Now I have the deal with baked in water spots again

Note to self......just give up ffs! you know the universe is against you

to my my mind it needs to be a brush, to get into texture indentations, yes, toothbrush is a bit small (although used to have a bequeathed australian toothbrush that must have been nearly 2" long)
I have some fairly stiff 3" paint brushes that I might sacrifice next time, but, all the scrubbing brushes have bristles that are too large / scratchy.

For this same reason I bought a Race Glaze water filter to use on the final rinse. No water spots on my black car.

I actually have two vessels connected together with some high grade resin. It's just a pain with the type of power washer I have, but when I get back from holiday I'm getting the new worx hydroshot which looks much better than their previous model.

Luckily a green M3 pad and some detailing spray has gotten them off all the glass and plastic trim. I'll clay the paint work in a couple of weeks and just hope for the best. If not, I'll get some megs m205.

Do you need a portable pressure washer then ?

I had a worx, no where near the psi I wanted so I re sold it, now I just do rinseless washing

But if you need one, I was going to buy the green works one, double the psi so snow foam works on it much better

can you put a full 140bar though a foam bottle ? it says that water jet will damage tyre sidewalls,
and pretty sure that's one of the things that contributed to clearcoat damage on my ex-bonnet, later transpantled.

Look closely at the user reviews for the green works one mate ;) do not think the batteries last very long (even the most expensive one dies after 15-20 mins of constant use!) so I am sticking to my trusty buckets of water for now!

What they need to do is make a product which uses the water bucket concept but takes mains power then that will be very popular with people who are a long way from the mains supply yet still work well as the water bucket is self contained...amazed no-one has made one of these yet as cannot be that hard to do surely!
