*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

I’m no Mathematician but I think that’s actually over half ;)

Have you used it before?

I’m a fan on these Spray & Rinse Products - Coverage is so easy and absolutely everything just beads well, all side glass beads and clears well when driving in the rain increasing visibility considerably.

No but at that price I will give it a go. Washing two cars twice a week. Will be handy.

Just had my three year old car detailed and finished with a ceramic coating. Is there anything I shouldn’t use, as in is there anything that would speed up the process of the ceramic coating being removed

Did the company who applied the Ceramic Coating not provide any aftercare instructions on how to maintain it properly?

I’d reach out to them for some advice.

Failing that Google is your friend! But I’m sure someone in here will provide some good advice.

Coatings usually have a bunch of products designed to Maintain and Top Up their own coatings.

Shampoo’s, Ceramic Protection Top up Sprays etc.

From my weekend knowledge, same practice is to be applied like you would any LSP - All these products tend to have Chemical Resistance, some more than others and any chemical is always going to deteriorate any coating.

Generally to use PH Neutral Products and avoid anything which is a strong Alkaline or Acid.

Dilution Ratio’s of Pre Wash, Shampo will be important too as like anything in higher dilutions tends to have more cleaning power and would be harsher on the protective coating.

Use a decent shampoo, such as CarPro Reset or Bilt Hamber Auto Wash.

A pre wash will help reduce any mechanical action deteriorating the coating.

There isn't a lot that will damage a high SiO2 content coating. They'll withstand majority of products that aren't ridiculously alkaline or acidic. People tend to think their coating has 'gone' when they don't see it beading but this is most likely due to the surface being masked by dirt or surfactants (from not rinsing properly).

Just practice safe washing such as pre-washing and you won't go too far wrong. Just don't use abrasive products like compounds/polishes.

Bilt Hamber Touch-less as a pre-wash, either CarPro reset or Tac Systems Mystic bubble for shampoo. Koch Chemie FSE to spray onto wet panels before drying is a great drying aid, removes water spots and adds some top up gloss.

Yeah - I’ve had a couple of bottles in my time, highly recommend.

Gyeon are top tier when it comes to coatings.

Another great one, potentially better than Wet Coat is Sonax Spray and Seal.

I spoil myself by picking them up on stinking deals and can then never pay full price when I’ve ran out.

Aqua Coat for £6 Per Litre is a steal, it’s 90% of what Wet Coat achieves with the same principles, spray and rinse!

Sonax BSD is the best spray coating I’ve used, along with Liquid Crystal.

For ease of use though, BH Touch On is amazing. Spray it on with a power washer and then rinse off.

With a pH neutral shampoo. Is it still pH neutral if you up the concentration... to get more suds for example?

I guess that depends whether the shampoo itself is PH neutral or whether in combination with the water it’s PH neutral.

What I would say is that the relative volume of washing product in the water is so low that I can’t imagine it’ll have much/any impact if you use a little more.

Sonax BSD was a favourite of mine for a long time, noticed it had a darkening effect on the paint, brilliant beading and durability.

I found it could be fussy on application mind, leaving streaks and paintwork felt grabby rather than slick therefore I started applying on a wet car and diluting 50/50 to negate those issues.

Most likely user error :D

Yeah it can be a little funny, as can liquid crystal.

I’ve found the best method is 2 MF method, one panel at a time.

Spray on one MF, wipe on, wipe off with the other. Deep pile and high GSM works best :)

HNY All!

Any recommendations on a K3 Karcher pressure gun for car washing as I’ve seen a few YouTube videos that look to use this upgrade

Thanks

Standard one is fine.

Lots of people obsess over a stubby gun but it doesn’t improve the washing ability.

I only replaced my Karcher Gun to a Stubby Gun when the Spring in my Karcher failed.

However I’d not go back, works perfectly for my setup as I’m close to a wall and a Stubby Gun allows me to get into the arches without being limited by the wall.

The quick release connection is a joy to use too, different degrees nozzles come in useful.

But yes… Water pressure is water pressure :D

I use Autobrite’s - Can also be had at your local EuroCarParts.

Unless spending a lot for one all the budget ones tend to be the same from China.

Edit: This lighting really shows how important a generous rinse down of a vehicle is before a contact wash, look at all that grit accumulation.

Any recommendations for a budget DA polished kit.
I have bosch and makita pro batteries if that is compatible.
Or I can go corded.

I'm not sure this is the best place to ask this but some may be able to help.

Does anyone have any advice on what's the best product to remove moss from a tarmac driveway? Ours is positioned in such a way that for most of the year, it gets no direct sunlight and with it being damp for so long the moss is having a great time.

I figured my fellow detailing enthusiasts would have come across this as well and be equally as keen as me to rectify it so may have some advice and/or recommendations.

DAS 6 V2 + Polishing pads of your choice.

I have a preference for Lake Country/Koch Chemie/Spyder Pads
Great thanks. There are some Maguires kits which come with compound and pad for About £129. On clean your car. Are they any good.
The paint is really bad should i do a wet sand with 3000 grit first?

Strong APC such as surfex HD. Spray on at 20% dilution, let it sit for a bit then power wash off.

Jet wash it off then get a butane torch and go to town. Kill it at the roots.

It’ll be fine but I think you could get better value by purchasing separate stuff.

Das6 V2 + Koch Chemie Red Pad/Compound + Purple Pad/Compound would be a good place to start.

5.5/5 inch pads rather than 6/6.5

Got any pictures of the paint? Not sure I’d start at wet sanding - I’d be inclined to try polishing it first and then wet sanding if you NEED to.
