*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

Bilt hamber stuff looks expensive on paper but is very cheap per clean. The Auto-Wash is 1 tea spoon of liquid for 10 litres for example! A 5 litre of foam will last me 1 year easily and that is with 3 cars.
I always swear by their alloy cleaner this is going to add to my car cleaning kit!

BTW Can I use this on my 530D alloys?

Brings up my 791M alloys on my M340i up a treat. What I usually do is snow foam the car then go round the alloys individually with a sponge, cleaning them and working the foam in whilst I allow the rest of the car to dwell for 5 mins or so.

Works a treat and saves a bit of time :)

A year? I need 650ml snow foam per 1L bottle for 4% PIR, which lasts about a wash and a half

So about 15 washes in total per 5L, which is half a year with 1 car or if I use to wash the Fiesta as well, 3 months.

If you power wash first then the car is covered in water which dilutes the prewash. So generally, straight in from dry with the prewash or foam.
I've started to this recently and it definitely seems to result in more dirt running off the car. Not sure if it's 'clinging' better to the surface or something but it seems to do the trick.

Does seem a bit strange doing it this way the first few times, you really do feel you want to give it a good rinse off first!!

How thick do you do it? I do 150ml of concentrate to 750 ml's of water in my lance. That is 33 bottles and a full bottle will do 2/3 cars for me so that is 100 car washes. I normally hand wash after so the pre-wash is just to get rid of 90% of the rubbish.

Thickness is irrelevant - it’s about the panel impact ratio (PIR)

AKA, how much product hits the car.

4% is roughly what BH recommend, and for me to achieve that, I’m looking at 650ml using a Karcher K5 and MJJC Foam Cannon v2 Pro

4% is top end but whatever suits you. I just pointed out what works for me and I don't like wastage. That's all.

What is a good soft'ish brush for around badges (model number etc) ,or general small crevices near rear window seal, around wiper, grooves in lights.

found myself using a toothbrush at weekend - but a jumbo toothbrush would be great, google not showing me anything,
many years ago Australian friend left a toothbrush that must have been 30mmx10mm which would be ideal

Something like that.

Or get them from a detailing webstore with stuff like 'Exterior Brush' and 'Engine Brush' printed on them for about £30 :p

those interior stubby brushes aren't rigid enough (unlike a soft toothbrush) to get around the outside badges or in other bodywork crevices,
in the same way that applying plastic renovators on internal textured plastics needs something more rigid.
... perhaps I'll try out some old pure bristle 3" paint brushes next time I clean the exterior, should be a bit more productive than a toothbrush.

A new bristle paint brush is something like £5 and would outdo the stubby brush or a detailing webstore £30 one.

Once I’ve used up my Halfords Advanced Foam (5L for £16.50)

I think I’ll give Touchless a try! Although it’s unlikely I’ll calculate my PIR.

Probably just 100ML into 400ML of water and see how it performs.

Is that 650ML of BH Touchless to achieve that?

If so I’d be interested how 650ML of any other product compares performance wise.

Although I’m aware how economical you can be with a Foam Lance, it opened my eyes upgrading to Autobrite’s Foam Lance how efficiently it used product even on the highest mix compared to my previous eBay special.

Yeah

All tests I’ve seen are done at the recommended PIR - 4% is quite typical I think.

I find the MJJC goes through the foam cannon REALLY quickly.
