*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

Elbow grease will always shift more than using good products :)

The idea of detailing is that you clean as efficiently as possible, while doing the least damage to the paint.

The best products will enable this - requiring the least amount of contact on your paint.

That's why claying your car isn't a great idea if you're not polishing afterwards. It gets rid of contaminants at the cost of marring.

I thought I was being efficient and safe but took an age...

Pressure Wheels > BH Surfex HD Wheels > Rinse > BH Surfex HD Lower Panels > BH Autofoam Panels > Rinse > BH Auto-Wash 2 Buckets > Rinse > Koch Chemie ProtectorWax > Rinse > Dry

Just want a simpler approach as do both family cars if gone to the hassle of getting everything out.

Looked at other options but never get around to coming up with a new more efficient workflow.

That’s a lot of steps, which I think you can reduce

My maintenance clean is:

P&S Brake Buster with mitt
Rinse wheels

Or

Auto wheel spray and rinse after 30s

Touchless inc wheels and arches
Rinse car
2 bucket method with shampoo of choice
Rinse
Blow dry

Thanks for that. Are you using a hose pipe or pressure washer? Will consider using a wheel mitt next time to get into the areas quickly and efficiently with a dedicated product.

If I want a really quick wash, hose pipe and touchless in an IK sprayer.

I go around the car twice with the sprayer before rinsing, which gives it enough dwell time without evaporating too quickly.

Mitts are good but get the right tool for the job.

I wouldn’t use one on my ID7 as the wheel face is massive. I’d likely just use a big, soft brush as it would be quicker.

Lovely for a no frills approach!

You mention you kept it simple. So no prewash? How did you tackle the wheels? Just the shampoo to do it all?

I am finding the faff of getting all the kit out a chore as of late and going back to two bucket for next wash. Spent an age on Saturday cleaning but found some elbow grease shifted more than just having fun with the pressure washer at times.
Yeah no pre wash used. Car is well maintained hence no mega products required.

I use a quality shampoo and up the concentration for the extra suds and lube. I think it recommends 5ml per 9L and I put 50ml in both buckets. I bought a 5L bottlenfor £40 so 100ml, 12 washes a year. That bottle will still last me 4 years.

1 bucket 2 microfibre mits for the wash.
And a full size old noodle mitt and another bucket for the wheels. Fortunately no extra chemicals needed for the wheels, the brake dust comes off easy. I have a decent tyre brush too which I find is well.

I usually spray wax to help longevity, tho skipped it this time round. Auto finesse aqua coat.

im going to be biased here
but check out DIY detail, their "simple" and "fun" approach is efficient and effortless

Well I thought I did my research enough but seems I've failed. I'm trying to setup my pressure washer with quick connects, upgraded hose and a short trigger and have it 95% right. Setup is:

Nilfisk c110.4 - M22 14mm quick connect - Uberflex hose (m22 both ends) - m22 14mm quick connect - MTM SG35 Trigger

All connects except the m22 14mm to the Nifisk pressure washer as its a different size. Now I'm not sure if I need a specific adaptor or to replace the whole pressure washer. Anyone else have a similar setup?

Going to be doing a deep clean in a couple of weeks

this lot came today (3 more coming tomorrow)

the sprayer bottle is a 360 degree & double shot one

I see you have a new brand addiction :P

Let me know what you think of the products

And a new phone? ;)

I used some left over AG polar blast yesterday. I’d forgotten how powerful Touch Less is in comparison to other products. The Polar Blast looked cool but did bugger all

looks awesome, i can see the gloss on the left panels as its reflecting there more

Now I know why you were 'biased' :)
What product will you put in the bottle? Do you also have a pump sprayer?
:D

I have a battery sprayer, although I don't think it's very good, it also foams though

I have a hand pump foamer but not a sprayer yet

I'll be putting rinseless wash in there as you can use it everywhere, including interior

I used AG for many years, there's better products out there now, including Bilt Hamber who are also a british manufacturer
100% agreed. BH AutoFoam is my go to.

New wheel cleaner is decent, their tyre gel is good and tar remover great when used in a spray bottle
I use Dragon's Breath wheel cleaner which is fantastic stuff. Really lives up to its name though as it REEKS. I might have to give their tyre gel a try, as I've been getting too much sling off Megs endurance on the last few uses. I'm not sure if they've changed the formula or I'm just being more heavy handed than normal.

Any wheel cleaner which does the colour change will smell unfortunately :/
