Career in the Forces? (IT Related)

Woah, can't believe it's been 7 weeks since you joined already. Time goes way faster when you're not at Halton I guess eh :p

Really make the most of the next couple of weeks, look forward to seeing you in your next phase of training.

I bet you'll be course 63!

:Edit: I'm probably more excitied than you are :D

Time does go in slow at Halton, expect at the weekends of course!:p

Any idea when the next course starts at Cosford?

Can't stress enough for anyone for wanting to join its hard but so good at the same time.

So your round first then Zefan?:p

More boys for you to play with
Oh what fun :p

Happened in January, we'll be gone by the time it comes around again!

Not a clue I'm afraid, I've not really been paying attention to when the new courses arrive. I see new people and everyone says "Yeah they've been here for a couple of weeks..." :o

I doubt you'll be on holding for very long if at all, no more than a week.

So your round first then Zefan?:p

Yeah the booze is cheap, why the hell not :D

Wow, thread is still going :p

Going down to my nearest base (waiting on details) to have a talk to someone in the RAF about IT roles and what would be best etc, at the moment im on a 3 month contract with a company so i am just seeing if joining the RAF is something i can look into after my contract. To get an overview of things.

Anyway, looks like everyone else above is doing alright so far ;)

Wooo just so everybody knows civillian company's are taking over most of the IT in the RAF as of august :O

Zefan, whats the pub on base like, what was it called props or something? Is it still dead all the time?

Yup and yeah most of the time. Can sometimes be good but only when you've arranged to meet people there, hardly anyone goes down to randomly see who's about.

:Edit: Begbie if you're reading and passed the end of IFPT, this week is still hard. Watch out for the D&C guys, they are awesome but very scary :o

Just got back from my PRTC yesterday.

Was great, made new friends and got beasted in the Fitness tests. Was pretty funny because I did the beep test, came out of it and he asked what score i got... I wasnt listening so i just looked down at his paper, saw 8.3 and said that.

Then I asked me mate who went out a couple of phases before me what he got, and he said he got 8.5. Doh! lol :D

Means ill improve on that easy enough tho ;)

Situps where a pain in the ass. I got to 34...34...34...then time ran out. Flaming cpl was standing over and i wasnt going far enough to my knees for the last ones bah!

Got my boots on now :D

Roll on April 1st so I can get started properly!

Pfft i managed to get 10.4 at cosford, this was while having THE worst hangover of my life. I was still very very drunk

I remember running out of the gym and throwing up EVERYWHERE urgh :p

I hope the final week's gone smoothly Begbie, if you're still on track to pass out on the 24th then you'll almost certainly be on course 63. They should start on the 8th, so the chances are you'll be sent on 2 weeks leave when you get to Cosford on the 25th.

Reservists

I am currently thinking about signing up as a reserve at Northolt with my trade either being "Intelligence" or "Flight Ops".

I need to get my butt down to my local AFCO to find out more about these roles.

I havn't read the whole thread, dont have time at the mo but would be interested to hear anyones experiences or knowledge on the above.

:)

Yeah I could reach that, but I dropped out without really reaching my max, but I figured, whats the point in killing myself, cos they will just expect that level from me all the time.

At least now i have room for steady improvement :)

I know what you're saying but the idea really is to give 100% all the time. Push yourself, then you'll see results beyond what you expected.

Not a clue about the reserves I'm afraid SiHH.

There has been a recent review of TG4 (ICT Technician) and just to confirm, to get moved onto the higher pay band we need:

Finish NVQ
Finish tat a and tat b's
18Months as an SAC

I will be getting a 4k pay rise in december

WOOOP

Hello,

One full working day left as a Halton Recruit! :D

What a feeling, amazing and what a great 9 weeks aswell absoutly amazing! But guys joining up be prepared for some low times aswell altough you get picked up fairly quick when it all starts going well.

Our passing out parade isn't looking too good though. 160 on the intake - i'm sure you can imagine how crap it is to stay in a straight line.

Start my course on the 16th Zefan, hoping I should get a few weeks off could do witg it

its been pretty much 2years to the day since i passed out of halton, wooo! I can still remember everything about it as well.

Lol i used to get so freaking annoyed at people who couldn't march. ITS WALKING WHILE SWINGING YOUR ARMS, ARGH!!!

Best of luck for tomorrow, and welcome to trade group 4 also know as ICT Technician =]

oh btw ive also heard they won;t be teaching radar etc at cosford anymore, you will only do that course if you get posted to work with radar. You lucky gits radar theory is horrible lol
