Cat 11.11

I 'upgraded' (I use that term loosely) to the 11.11 drivers last night and have had no end of problems with BF3.

I bought an HIS IceQ Turbo HD 6870 a month ago and have been enjoying eyefinity in all it's glory. I've overclocked the card to 1000mhz gpu and 1250mhz mem, all running stable and never gets above 70degrees.

Was running 11.10 preview 2 in a stable fashion, thought I'd try the official 11.11 and now within 10 mins of gameplay I start to get what look like scan lines horizontally across the 3 screens. It starts with only a few, getting progressively worse until the display starts to break up into boxes and it shifts the images around like a jigsaw puzzle, it then becomes unplayable and I have to reboot my PC. Just exiting BF3, doesnt stop it. Never had this problem until I upgraded.

It's so frustrating. I had an HIS IceQ HD4670 before this, lovely little card, overclocked extremely well, but also had no end of driver problems. I think I gave up trying to upgrade the drivers after either 11.3 or 11.4, because everyone was broken and caused crashing.

So now I'm going to try the 11.10 preview 3 someone posted a link to. If that fails, it will be back to preview 2 I already have downloaded.

Oh, and I also use the uninstall, boot into safe mode, run driver cleaner, then ccleaner method (including registry clean as it always leaves crap behind) then reboot and install new drivers.

At this rate, I am tempted to sell my 6970's and get a pair of 560Ti's.

AMD are completely unprofessional with these current driver releases.

What a difference a year makes :p The quote below was posted 11th September last year.

As you probably knew, because I remember you posting in my thread, I very nearly made the jump to Nvidia.

All I can say is thank God I didn't, I love my crossfire setup and haven't had any issues with the 10.8 drivers. Really happy I decided to keep my 5870's and will probably stick with ATI for the next few years.

From the thread entitled "Put off by ATi?"

This sort of thread along with the moaning certainly seems to be a common occurence, you know what they say "theres no smoke without fire" ;)

I'll get my coat :o

Your are right! that door swings both ways, its all about the timing of what some users are using at any given time to not be effected when each side has their bad spells and then they kidd themselves that the other side never has any issues for users.

Everyone should be checking the temps of the cards because when the throttling kicks in its stutter time.

I also found that i need to set the fans too 100% manually to just keep it under the limit.

This game is the first of its kind to hammer my Hex CPU upto 90% usage and upto Quad GPU 90% usage, I'm impressed.

mine, on previous drivers were stuttering in bf3 like a whore; it didn't seem to do it for the first hour or so of play, but after that would encounter frequent frame drops, and looking at usage would show the 2nd and 3rd gpu dropping to as low as 25ish% usage... this driver hasn't done that yet at all...

Further to my previous comments, it appears that the scan line/graphical corruption was not due to the 11.11 drivers, but rather, I had somehow managed to switch off my custom fan profile in Afterburner. So the card was getting a little bit too hot, what with the overclock! :o

I turned it back on, saved the profile, and after hours of play, I've not had it since!

I did still roll back to 11.10 drivers though as they worked fine, and I did notice some fps drops withn the new one, where there werent any before.

As an aside, is anybody running a single 6870 in eyefinity on BF3, if so, what sort of framerate are you seeing? I'm running mostly high settings, 16x AF, no AA and 3840x1024 resolution - seeing late 40s to mid 50s fps, which I think is pretty respectable. Got a score of 699 on unigine with this setup!

I get the green graphical glitches and my cards run at just 60C under load with no overclock..???
