Catalyst 10.6 Released

Seems to be Crossfire issues. No problems here so far. Initially I thought the card stayed at 400/1125 clocks but it went back to the idle clocks after a while. Also I'm not sure about this but I think idle voltages have increased a little.

dowwnload the drivers and installed no problem....but now my idle speed is 400mhz from 157 and idle temps is now 52 from 38....whats that all about....anyway of changing them...cant see it any where

My dual monitor setup has stopped working since I installed these. Secondary (VGA) monitor is working, but my primary (DVI) has ceased to display anything but a signal not found message.

Havent seen any way to resolve this, guess its time to roll back to 10.4 (I used Driver Cleaner and removed anything with ATI in it before installing)

Drivercleaner

Two DVI monitors working perfect here and I just installed over the top of 10.5's.

I even reinstalled windows to get away from 10.5a, but my idle clocks are still 400/1050.

They will drop to 157/300 if I put the max clocks to 600/900 in CCC, but then when I go back to stock settings it goes back up to 400/1050.

Not happy at all. Idle is now 38C whereas it used to be under 30. (Powercolor 5830 uses the 5870 cooler, which is rather sick).

If you don't overclock idle will be 157/300, if you tick the overdrive box your idle clocks will increase to 400/1200.

Best way is to set a overclocked profile with Afterburner and enable it when you want to game, the rest of the time you can have 157/300 clocks ;)

Well the idle clocks are still high when overclocking so it looks like it is here to stay.
I'm unfamiliar with this problem, could you elaborate?

I know my card (all 5970s?) is unstable at the default 2D frequencies of 157/300. I've fixed this in the past by creating a profile and setting the 2D clocks to 400/900, though recently (can't remember which driver version) actually applying this profile doesn't set my clocks to 400/900, it sets them to like 400/1100 instead.

(1100 is my current 3D memory overclock)

Is this the "idle clocks when overclocking" bug?

edit: I should probably read posts directly above mine. :o

Yeah that's what I have done, 2D profile and a 3D one, still a clumsy fix form ATI IMO.

Does rivatuner work now with the 5xxx series cards? The great thing about Rivatuner was that I could set it to activate an overclock only when a 3d app is launced.

If you have been using drivercleaner then your just asking for trouble as there's simply no need for it just install the newest set of drivers over the old ones or at worse uninstall the ones, reboot and install the update.

I really shoud update my video driver, I think I'm still stuck on 10.1 or 10.2.

Bah blue screen after reboot . I just installed over the top as normally do . Rolled back to 10.4 . Think i just wait untill they sort it out.

Very lazy and unclean to not uninstall before installing new drivers!

And your suprised you get Blue screens?

Process:

. Express unistall all ati software

. Reboot

. Delete all lingering ATI folders on program files etc

. Install new drivers

. Reboot if neccesary

It takes like 5 mins or less

Additionally the 10.6 drivers seem to be a good release.
