Education didn't really suit the world of IT as it looks like I have done nothing to progress since A levels. Might ask my Dad what he put on the last one as was still living with them 10 years ago. Was surprised to see the free text description of what I do for a living.

Each household gets given a unique access code. If you don't fill it in, it's not exactly difficult to find out.

If you request a paper copy, this also has a unique barcode/ID number on it which is then linked to your address.

Any address that doesn't complete goes to an investigatory stage, as some people may have genuine reasons for not filling it in.
 
When there are multiple adults in the household which one would get the fine if the census wasn't filled in out of interest?
 
I reckon I may have a genuine reason for not filling it in. In the middle of house purchase (well near end) and don't have a date yet, but if we did move next week there is no guarantee the letter with the code would be at the new house. We'd be leaving the letter for this house here when we leave.

Its per house you can't use a census to another house. If there isn't one at your new house then there isn't one.

If you don’t have an access code

You can request a new access code to start a new census if you have lost or not received an access code.

Well tbh, I made an assumption that it wouldn't be possible and shocked to find it is that easy.

Edit: I now have two codes for two different addresses (other house is empty, so hopefully this is OK) and will fill in whichever house we're in on the 21st.

Well they have been doing it since 1841 (except 1941 when we were otherwise engaged but had a 1939 mini one) so it must be useful.
However in the days of social media everybody has to have their (often pointless) opinion.
