Sounds like its created as much work as it saved.
But the impact of the work is different.

I’m sure the admin team have thought this through long and hard, and I’m sure they’ve dealt with enough cases where the majority of bad sales have been from members who have contributed very little to the community/forum.

So yes, you will have more people spamming more often, but:

1. Access to the forum and MM is a privilege, not a right.
2. It will likely reduce the number of bad sales in the MM.

It’s a solution which involves the most work for the admin team, but I think it’s the only real solution you can use.

Subscription is something I’ve seen a couple of people mention, and I don’t think this would be the answer either.

I think that the main stance the admin team are taking with this is that it’s a community forum, and if you’re not adding value to it through posting, you don’t get access to the privileges.

Seems like a very blunt instrument to me.

Curious how it would "Reduce bad sales" how?

Wasn't the whole point to create activity?

No, the point was to remove access to the MM for accounts that aren't being kept active, for reasons that have been outlined already.

The posts about increased contribution to the forums keeping them healthy have generally been in response to the "but I contributed 15 years ago" people, to help them understand why their entitlement to the MM is misplaced.

Spammers get more entitlements. I think that's what will be understood.

Good luck with it.

do we have a percentage of bad sales roughly ,5%?. higher/lower, i would be interested to know
Me too.

But this isn't about that so it's unlikely there are metrics for that. It's about people who only use MM as a disproportionate use of resources. If anyone gets caught in that crossfire that's just collateral. You can spam to correct it.

A sensless move, was very active in my overclocking days years ago but do other things now. Still occaisionally buy stuff from the MM for me, my kids and grandson encouraging them into computers, gaming etc. At the end of the day members want or need to sell their used items to buy new, and that ability has been reduced what ever way you look at it.

2 posts last year and what a surprise only in the MM... sorry but perfect example of the rule working as intended

So MM access is unilaterally removed. You wouldn't know this was pending unless you had visited the MM and seen the notification. Now it's gone, and a poorly-written first post here says 15 posts in other areas outside MM over a 90 day rolling period in order to retain access.

Further down it states that this requirement is to restore access.

So which is it? Do people have to keep posting to maintain access? A 15 posts per 90-day period running total?

OCUK, it states, is a community and by enforcing this they are making sure we contribute.

This is a first for OCUK isn't it? For that matter, the first time I've seen this kind of behaviour online.

It's really not that hard.

The requirements now along with the normal total posts required is you must also show you're a regular user of the forums by posting at least 15 times in a 90 day rolling period.
If you lose access then it will be automatically reinstated once you hit the 15 posts in a rolling 90 day period.
