Channel 4 - Skint

Sad thing is every human being is born a blank slate, some of these people via different upbringings may have been an amazing physicist or entrepreneur / inventor.

I don't think anyone is born stupid as such, they just fall into a cycle like this and make themselves stupid. Almost sort of like a learned helplessness.

I personally believe all human beings have untapped power in them, I really do.

No I think some people are just born stupid. Or at least, have a propensity to be thick. I see that in my immediate family.

I completely agree with this and find it sad that people turn to this lifestyle.

I haven't watched the programme yet, but will give it a watch later.

People are not blank slates; on average, about 50% of variation in pretty much any human trait can be traced to genetic differences and a decent chunk of the rest of the variation can be attributed to differences in the intrauterine environment. None-the-less the impact of environment is colosal.

Despite it's rather sensationalist stylings, I thought it was quite good and certainly an insight into how the other half lives. What a flippin' tragedy.

Good statement, reminds me why I love these forums.

This was quite interesting. It reminded me of The Wire - loads of poor people with nothing to do and nothing to live for so they just sit around the estate and sell/do drugs.

That steelworker guy had no business making a baby that he couldn't support. And his partner should have been sterilised - she brought 7 children into poverty. They will most likely end up like her and continue the cycle. Her daughter was already shoplifting.

Yep. But unfortunately they're enabled by taxpayers to continue this reckless lifestyle and the left keep making excuses for them. They don't take responsibility because they don't have to take responsibility. The government will keep picking up after them and wipe their dirty little behinds so they'll keep doing what they're doing.

I also thought it was rather amusing how proud he was that he was buying all the stolen food from the back of a car and then his daughter was being punished for doing exactly that. Its no wonder the children of today end up like there parents.

Saw this last night. Most depressing hour of television I've seen in a long time. Benefit's culture absoluteluy rife, 21 yr old girl already with 5 kids, layabout scroungers as far as the eye could see., petty criminals, crackheads...
Scunthrope tourist Board have got their work cut out after this...

It's people like shown in this documentary that make the Chinese 'death buses' seem a really good idea....

The death bus comes, takes you away, and you are never seen again. Our taxes then go down and everyone can be happy
