cheap, GOOD looking, car suggestions please

You didn't mention reliable. So, Alfa 159.
Spending 3kish on a 159 he might aswell just throw his money in the bin. A good 159 now seems to demand a premium of between 5-8k as I have been looking into the 3.2V6 159 and Brera's for myself and found the prices vary massively for good examples

Cheap and good looking, Hyundai Coupe SIII
That's a good shout that is if Op can get over his 5 door only fetish.
If he swaps the badges to Toyota and puts GT86 on the back it will look like a 10k plus car as I really can't tell them apart on the road :D

Something Japanese. Even 90s Japanese is still pretty solid if looked after.

Don't do what a lot of new drivers do and go and finance some crappy Corsa. Get something you can afford to lose, learn about how cars work and maintain it yourself. Then buy something nice when you have a few years experience.
Clio Sport 197 If insurance allows
Honda Civic Type-S
Focus Zetec-S
thanks for the list, i'll look into each of them

2 door cars are generally better looking, is there a practical reason you're "not a fan of 2 door cars"?

No they aren't, and have a range of other practicality issues.
* doors are bigger, so harder to get out of in the car park
* driver has to get out to let passengers in the back
* tilting seat mechanisms often break
* normally less rear passenger space.

Op is sensibly wanting a proper car not a hairdresser mobile.

Hate tiny useless cars.

Yes 5 door is more practical but most hatchback cars look better in 3 door like the Focus i linked to earlier. If you have friends etc in the car all the time though going to college etc then it will get tiresome having to get out to let them out of the back.
One car that is also worth looking at and looks ok in 5 door is a Fiesta Titanium.

thanks for the vehicle, I've added it to cars i'll look into and very true I agree

i've been a passenger of a 2 door its tiresome espically for short journeys

Three off the top of my head would be Mazda 3, Honda civic or a focus. Mazda or Honda would probably be more reliable but the Focus will be cheaper to repair.

I've owned plenty of 3 door cars and never:

a) Found them hard to get out of
b) Had to let anyone out of the back - there is a passenger side for that sort of thing
c) Broken a seat mechanism

Less passenger space in the back? Even if that was the case, as the driver it isn't my problem!

I did specifically say generally, and I think most people would tend to agree. After all, there's a reason why the best looking cars are generally supercars, and supercars are 2dr.

All of the issues you've stated I've never experienced.

See I'd have to slightly disagree. I think both the 6gc and panamera are fantastic looking beasts. I also much prefere the 4 door versions of the m3 to the 3 door or m4. Also think the rs4 is better looking than the rs5.

We've had quite a few 3 door cars over the years and to me anyway they are a huge compromise if you ever actually need to take more than 1 other person anywhere.

Just the extra length of the door does make it a real pain if you regularly park in car parks as well, i'd never own a 3 door car again if a 5 door was available.

Even little things like going to work being able to put your bag and coat on the back seat by opening the door rather than getting in and twisting around to put stuff back there.

I do love the 4dr variants you've mentioned but I'd always say the coupe was a better looking car. Perhaps with the 6gc and 6 coupe, it's tied for me, but the 4 vs the 4gc is an easy win for the coupe IMO. The 4dr tend to look quite elongated.

But hey, as I said, it's a subjective thing. I maintain someone asking for a good looking car is an odd request.
