****check serial number sticker on GPU****

+ several Hmmmms. Whilst the outcome is good, would the same have happened if it was in the private customer service forum, and not developed into a fairly big public thread? As someone sagely pointed out earlier.

Hmmmm.

Couldn't get any worse than the Raijintek thread. :p

according to the very rude person I sopke with at OCUK, he has never seen a card which did not have a sticker on and directly accused me of intentionally removing it

If that is true, then it's at odds with OCUK's claims of excellent customer service.

Buying PC hardware seems like a bit of a gamble these days, no matter where you buy it from.

ok ive just had a look a my 980 that was given to me new only a few weeks ago, no serial number sticker anywhere on the card, maybe under the back plate? wont take it off but had a look at the box and there is a big white sticker that shows the S/N and other numbers, I will now keep my box safe for the duration of the warranty just in case.....

Keeping the box is a good idea.

However the retailer could still claim that a stickerless graphics card is not the one that was delivered in the box.

Is not a case of you said they said, how can they prove there was a sticker on it the first place? Stickers can and will fall off. Was one attached when manufactured?

Should it be in the T's&C's when you buy a card now that you have to check for said serial and if missing RMA immediately?

PCB etching is the way to go.

Probably the reason MCOL sided with the buyer in the other case.

I'd agree with PCB etching - I wasn't even aware there was a sticker on my GPU until this thread, and it could quite easily have fallen off yet I would be deemed at fault if it had done.

Luckily mine is protected by my backplate.

if my card was broke and under warranty but sticker had come off and it was refused. haha there would be a issue :D

there definitely needs to be some kind of etching done.
