Children not allowed squash in school !

I have said it and also stated that I have not as I am recovering from major brain surgery still and I'm trying to get the info I needed. No one has done this yet . Wish people would read the whole thing

I have read the whole thing, you didn't acknowledge my post #248, you were after statistics, i searched and located some from 2005, not that i need them as im not a parent, it was for your benefit.

Completely understand that you say you are recovering, and im not in any way judging here, but you seem able to post loads on the forum, but unable to email the school ?

Can you spell out what "info" you are seeking ?

Read above or are you that dumb you read what you want as I havent been in. Would you let your child go without ?

There is an option though. This is what i've been saying since page 8 or something. Your son doesn't like the 'taste' of water. He can still drink it. He won't explode.
And as i've pointed out several times over a number of pages use a mineral or spring water or better still de-ionised as it's tasteless. As in physically have no taste. As in to say it has a taste is against the laws of biology and physics.

Here is an idea, hows about you stay at home and let the teachers get on with doing what they are paid and trained to do i.e educate your children!!

Going in and wasting their time and making a fuss about something so trivial as this is utterly pathetic.
If every parent went in making a fuss and complaining about ridiculous things like this it would be an utter nightmare for teachers and it would be very difficult to actually get any quality teaching done. (So ultimately it would be the children at the school who would suffer!!)

Don't get me wrong of course parents have every right to go in and complain/discuss about serious issues they might be experiencing, this however IS NOT a serious issue and I cannot believe you are even considering wasting their time moaning about it

I did actually type up a response there but deleted it due to the fact you seem to be incapable of reading a simple thread and replaying accordingly.

Compared to say buying the ingredients fresh and preparing it yourself.

It's more apt to say it is no healthier than a Mcdonalds (or at least not by much).

Subway is a fast food restaurant and is no more healthy than any other fast food restaurant (not by any great margin anyway).

I'd disagree, a chicken and bacon sub with salad wouldnt be any different to doing it at home after buying the ingredients from a supermarket.

It is not on the same level as mcdonalds at all.

I did read that yes thank you . I also found it on Monday and it was from an American publication I think , I still did not answer if they are allowed to do it or not :(

I can write on here from my bed :D But I haven't contacted the school etc yet as my findings on google did not satisfy me I asked here and still yet to have a valid argument to talk to the school about so there is no point at the moment .

Thanks Luke

How so? Compared to what?

A sandwich you make yourself from not previously frozen ingredients!

That's what takes the Biscuit sfaic their Tag Line: Eat Fresh when all of the ingredients that go into any Subway sandwich(if you can call it that) were delivered frozen into the store probably a week ago!:p

Run a google search and it will give you plethora of information on the subject. I'm talking about fact not opinion.

There is a big difference between the fresh chicken/bacon you can buy from a butcher/supermarket to the processed rubbish you get in a subway. The same can be said for the bread.

Errrm yes, yes it would. I'd be using better quality ingredients, not forgetting it'd taste much better.

You shouldn't drink de-ionised/distilled water as a main water source. The minerals (calcium, zinc etc) dissolved in regular/spring water (which incidentally give it its taste) are pretty much necessary for our bodies to work properly.

I doubt that anyone who would give their child purified water to make it taste better, and who also thinks subway is an example of a healthy meal would be responsible enough to take proper precautions regarding additional mineral supplementation.

I think what this thread does make clear is how many parents are willing to delegate responsibility for their child's health to the schools.

"Rules are rules, just go with it." What a conformist attitude some of you lot have.

And why is non-conformist any better?

What happens to those that stand out in school. Oh wait...the OP has already revealed this with the fact that his son is bullied for being tall, larger than other kids and smarter than other kids.

And Damien, I'm aware that mineral and spring waters are excellent sources of minerals (infact tap ain't bad too if it's fluorinated etc) but the OPs son won't drink most water because he doesn't like the taste and the OP isn't willing to make him.

Because I'll tell you what the main problem with a large amount of these schools, especially in the cities, is that in one breath they will confiscate your child's squash and tell you it's water only, and in the next breath send them along to the canteen or tuck counter that they run and flog them juice bursts, sunmagic or Kaluna juice bottles at 80% mark up, because it's only about the kiddies health you know.

Bottle of squash from home, or a bottle of tropicana from the counter or free vending machine they give to the school?

I live with a teacher, my step-mum is a head at a large inner city school and a close friend of mine is also a teacher and I can confirm that in non of their three different schools (under three different education authorities) is this the case.
Two of them offer only healthy lunches and snack items. The other has a policy of providing a mixed choice of foods for the pupils to make their own choices with healthy options highlighted.
All three operate a no drinks in class other than water policy. Reasons are...if spilled it isn't sticky on desks etc requiring extra cleaning. Doesn't stain floors. Cannot have alcohol disguised in it via scent. Healthy doesn't come in to it in that regards, infact, I don't think I ever said it did...

So tbh I don't see what your comment had to do with my statement. lol

I highly doubt primary school children will be sneaking frigging alcohol into school mixed with squash.
