Chinese cars

Why. They also make the Suzuki there too. Been two lines since 20yrs I was in the plant. They employe 3800 directly and countless extra suppliers. Whats with all the negative opinions on everything.

What investment?
the dealerships/garages they are building with the hope of attracting UK customers (have they proportionaly done the same in europe)

Companies based in the EU don’t want to manufacture stuff here anymore because we are not in the EU. Nissan don’t really want to manufacture here anymore because access to the EU market has been frustrated. They only stayed because the conservatives bunged them a load of empty promises.
indeed uk is in the last chance saloon for labour to fix this, and giving china carte blanche to take the market to the detriment of our real friends (the euoropeans) is short-sighted.

Why on earth would they adopt the same tariffs as the EU?
see above

Since when do I put a negative opinion on everything? It would be like me saying 'why do you only respond with overly passive aggressive posts' when that is only some of your posts.

At the end of the day, a car factory who's output is shrinking year on year for a number of years and is operating at under half its maximum capacity is not exactly a positive outlook is it.

No but it’s a massive producer that you forgot. Than tried to make it irrelevant as it’s ‘small’ (yet bigger than Stellantis). They only make hybrids there so no surprise there’s a year on year drop in production on more complicated cars. Not sure why it’s a bad sign. It’s still a massive employer for UK.

I’d just ignore jpauls weird obsession with China tariffs. He clearly doesn’t get it

Passive aggressive is a perception. You’ll note a lot of what I post is just facts and rarely actually share an opinion.

Weirdly you discredit Nissan production fixtures as it’s ‘tiny’ compared to global production. This is irrelevant when we talk about production in uk. The fact they have loads of plants global and still produce here says something. (Same with Toyota )

That is a very strong application for the word only! That's a car every four and a half minutes if they were operating 24/7 365 days of the year.
Exactly. The use of language is odd.

Tact time is 59 seconds it seems. The avensis was 44 when I used to work for a supplier in the plant. All the pressing and welding is done on site too ( some are done at other sites/ suppliers) As well as assembly. So just judging by number of cars made isn’t really the only factor

And people got all excited when that SU7 was made every 74 seconds or something.

I expect my first EV will be BYD.
I'm impressed.

If the world genuinely wants to embrace green tech we'd not have huge tariffs on Chinese imports.

It would bring down the barrier to ownership significantly.

And as said.. How many cars sold in UK are built here now?

You haven’t even driven one. You are impressed as they opened a few dealers ?

The world doesn’t want to embrace China tech. In fact there’s many security fears with this approach. Have you forgot an economy needs people to have jobs to grow?

The technology, looks, interiors all look great for the price.
I'm very very price sensitive when it comes to cars. If tariffs were lowered, and BYD keeps up their momentum, I don't see how they won't make significant inroads.

Neither country’s traffic was a scary as the trips between airport and hotel in Moscow in 2016. Absolute “I must pass everyone else and I don’t care who dies” mentality, though everyone gives way to blacked out Merc SUVs with blue lights on them.
Driven in worse places if im honest. Just don’t hesitate and it’s fine. Italy is worse

And why would we want to lower tariffs for our economy ? How much of a 45k seal is due to the tariffs. why not buy one now ? and avoid £410 a year VED

Top value add as ever.
As ever?! Get real pal. I peaked over last few years and recently have some absolutely clown comments, no replies to salient points and other saying I don’t have a job. So you’ll have to forgive my lack of GAF for the new breed of musk sympathising armchair politicians. You still think your opinions are facts so no need to debate as I can’t get to your level of ignorance. My value is correction of the clueless.

Well that's the choice.
Do You lower tariffs to get serious on hitting green targets. Or do you protect the economy? Which will suffer if we don't have to world wide net climate improvement?

Is BYD not subject to nearly 20pc tariffs?
Edit: that's EU. Looks like UK is only 10pc.
In which case they aren't really in the running.

Aside. Why not buy one now? I'd never fork out 45k for a car. I still require used EVs with decent ranges to drop well below 20k to even consider getting one.

Although our current car is on its last legs so may need to think about what comes next.
