prediction: Lewis for the win

I will tip my hat to you if he does win. ;)

PS. why is this forum now dominated by BrawnGP supporters? I've never seen this level of support for a single team.

Good qualifying session :)
Can see Vettel and Alonso colliding at the first corner though.

Heikki's strategy looks interesting. 32 laps worth of fuel on board and so a 1 stop strategy? (not sure about the tyres). Could it pay off and get in to the points?

Not unless it rains. 25-26 laps on SS that only last about 10 laps- can't see it working out too well without serious luck.

In order of importance:

1. They are winning
2. They are British as are we
3. Did I mention they are winning
4. Ross Brawn is a genius
5. Oh yeah they are winning!
6. Button proves age is no barrier to winning in a winning car ;)
7. And they are winning!!

:D:D

OK, so winning has a lot to do with the support. But, last year and the year before McLaren and Hamilton were pretty good...I dont remember Hamilton or McLaren getting this level of support.

Remeber school mate, when the kids would come in with a new footy shirt after Liverpool or Man Utd or Chelsea or Arsenal won the league/cup....same thing :D

Has anyone heard if there will be a penalty for Vettel for holding up Kovi?

Heikki was on an outlap, as indicated by him warming his tyres up and gradual braking into the hairpin. The lap the BBC were referring to was his following lap, which he must have cocked up (or been blocked a 2nd time!). Vettel wasn't entering the pits either, as Legard said, but starting his own fast lap, as can be seen from Heikki's onboard.

I don't think Alonso will be a particularly strong contender through the race.

It depends on how the soft tyres play out. Assuming his idea is to start on the softs and get them out of the way on the shortest stint, then any delay later in the race and it all comes back to him, as was seen in Melbourne for Hamilton, Kubica and the Ferraris. The likihood of a safety car here is very slim though. There's only 1 wall you can easily hit (the one Karthikeyan hit in 2005), and even that's difficult now they've used tarmac on that run-off. Other than that you're relying on a collision, inclement weather or a man-hole cover again!

If the soft tyres were anything like yesterday, they'll not last more than 10-12 laps, but the track should have rubbered in a lot more, so they ought to be better.

Personally I support British teams and British Drivers and then individual racers.

Snap. Ive never been a fan of a single team or single driver.

Although it does pain me to call McLaren British, seen as they are actually only 15% McLaren owned.... there largest shareholder is Mercedes at 40%, so the team is more German than British.

Anyway, have we had the weights put on here yet?

1. Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, 644kg
2. Fernando Alonso, Renault, 637
3. Mark Webber, Red Bull, 646.5
4. Rubens Barrichello, Brawn GP, 661
5. Jenson Button, Brawn GP, 659
6. Jarno Trulli, Toyota, 664.5
7. Nico Rosberg, Williams, 650.5
8. Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari, 673.5
9. Lewis Hamilton, McLaren, 679
10. Sebastien Buemi, Toro Rosso, 673
11. Nick Heidfeld, BMW Sauber, 679
12. Heikki Kovalainen, McLaren, 697
13. Felipe Massa, Ferrari, 690
14. Kazuki Nakajima, Williams, 682.7
15. Sebastien Bourdais, Toro Rosso, 690
16. Nelson Piquet, Renault, 697.9
17. Robert Kubica, BMW Sauber, 659
18. Adrian Sutil, Force India, 648
19. Timo Glock, Toyota, 652
20. Giancarlo Fisichella, Force India, 679.5

Explains where Alonso came from, hes running on fumes! Looks good for the Brawns.

This is looking good for brawn again. if they can get of the start line. We've seen what button can do with a few laps. Poor quail from him though.

My golly what a difference a winter can make! Imagin what would have been said if Button qualified 5th last year :D

Is it not normal for me not to really support any team or driver? I like some drivers and I dislike others, but I don't really hope for certain people to win. I'd rather it be an exciting and competitive race.

Shareholders do not make the team their nationality.

McLaren is a British team. You can remove your pains!

I think RBR, BGP, Kimi and Lewis are all in good positions. Looking forward to the race!

I wouldnt mind seeing Kovi getting onto the second lap either.. would be nice.. Kovi.. listening? are we?

BBC pit stop predictions with grid ranking if they were running normalised fuel load:

1 Barrichello (lap 15)
2 Button (lap 15)
3 Trulli (lap 16)
4 Vettel (lap 10)
5 Webber (lap 11)
6 Alonso (lap 8/9)
7 Raikkonen (lap 19)
8 Rosberg (lap 12)
9 Hamilton (lap 20)
10 Buemi (lap 19)

Alonso is really really light on fuel, good strategy as he hates the super softs so lets them run them out early and get rid quickly.
