Chinese Grand Prix 2010, Shanghai - Race 4/19

PS: Don't forget it was Hamilton that asked for Jenson to be brought into the team last year. It is almost as though he wanted this challenge himself because he knew it would help him.

I don't believe that at all, I expect they ran the decision by him but I doubt he was any further in the decision process than making him feel part of the team running it by him.

After all the other week Whitmarsh was taking the praise for being the one responsible for going after Button.

I didn't much like his father but it does seem he needed him around to keep him focused rather than off at some pussy cat doll school disco on the eve on a gp. It's pretty obvious Hamilton is a run of wins waiting to happen, the trouble is in stable dry conditions I just don't yet see them having the car to beat Vettel. To be fair I prefer hamilton at the back after a nightmare qually, it makes the race far more entertaining.

I tell you what though, I wasn't expecting Hamilton to have not led a lap yet this season. If I was feeling particularly trenchant I might make the observation that it's him who is the star under-performer this year rather than Schumacher. After all, the other McLaren seems to be leading plenty of laps....;)

Might be fun at Barcelona. Alonso won't want to be beaten on home soil now he has a Ferrari to drive around there. The RBR boys will be out for revenge for losing another race after dominating qually. McLaren will be out to keep up the momentum of this race win. Mercedes might well be in the mix as well, the Renault could spring a suprise in Kubica's hands....would be nice if we had an exciting race that was dry as well, but I think the two may well be mutually exclusive these days.

I was very confused about commentators and people on here saying LH and JB where playing team orders. Where you watching this event at all. Both of them and especially LH where sliding all over the place when putting the power down and almost a second a lap faster than anyone else. They were racing each other.

last 6 or 7 laps, hamiltons front tire was bald, and rosberg was catching about a second a lap, last couple laps buttons tires also were bald which is why he slowed so much. bald tires in rain means sliding about.

i would say in the end they were just bringing the cars home.

Before those last laps they were on it, they slowed due to grip as you say, not any team orders or lack of racing. JB even went of and LH was struggling in and out of the corners.

Hamilton doesnt know the meaning of "bring it home". He only knows, drive on the limit...even on the final lap. He has shown this to be the case last year.

And Button was definitely on the limit, which is why he ended up going off. The guy rarely makes any mistakes and if he does make a mistake, it won't be due to a lack of concentration, but more likely because he is being forced to drive faster than his car will allow.

a good race all in all, the beginning was a bit mental but did start to get a bit boring in the second half.
hamilton and vettel in the pits - no no no no no, they should both be puinished for that, what if their had been mechanics outside whilst they were effectively trying to push each other off the road? that wouldnt of been pretty.

schumachers doing ok, i get the commentators expecting the world from him, hes in a new car and hes been out of the game for years - theres going to be that adjustment period for him.

looking forward to the european leg now, where things really hot up.

It's only because of the second safety car that he was anywhere near Button, perhaps he realised that or was reminded but if he had taken the lead from Button it would have been a travesty.

I thought it was a bit ridiculous that the safety car was brought out for a bit of carbon fibre on the track, a few yellow flags and team message to warn the drivers would have been enough to get it removed.

Yes that was completely stupid, they'd cleared up the whole track long before the cars even got in behind the safety car! (Despite the hopeless marshalls all brushing the carbon fibre in different directions)

Which is why when JB went off I suspect McLaren told the drivers not to force the issue (I think LH had a smaller lockup a few corners later)

I just cant see why the team wouldnt do this - it doesnt matter to them who wins as long as they get a 1 - 2

Exactly - robbed Kubika of a podium imo and Rosberg of 2nd

When you are in a race, you are in a race. The rights or wrongs of what may have happened during the race get thrown out of the window. It wasn't Hamilton's fault that Button's lead was eroded due to the safety car.

If Hamilton had a chance of getting past Button, he would've taken it. Button knew this, which would explain why he was pushing so hard in the final stages (resulting in him going off).

You never know, the team may have told both drivers to "bring it home" and switch their cars over to more conservative/safter settings. The problem is that Hamilton doesnt know the meaning of "take it easy". Button knows this and was probably doing whatever he could to stay in front of Hamilton.

If we reach a stage where 1 McLaren driver is favourite to win the title, I'm sure McLaren will ask the other driver to support him and not try and overtake/fight for position.

At this stage, Hamilton and Button are both fighting for supremacy at McLaren. Neither of them want to back down.
