Chinese Grand Prix 2010, Shanghai - Race 4/19

Could be worse - Flav, Todt?

To be honest....I'd take Flav over Ron any day. At least Flav can be halfway amusing. Ron Dennis is about as funny as the flu. As for Todt - meh, he seems to be a better FIA president than I thought he was going to be. At least he's undoing some of the damage Max's regime caused.

sounds like Im one of the few who preferred RD to either Flav or JT, dont get me wrong I like Whitmarsh too, but currently still prefer RD

all the announcement really says is " We have opened a new building on site and somebody that majority of external people never knew worked here has left after a year"

Flav and Todt are as trustworthy as a £4 note

Same goes for Ron Dennis.

In 2007, he was involved in harbouring data from Ferrari's car. He only came clean about it when Alonso threatened to inform the FIA of what really went on. In a panic/anger, Ron Dennis went and informed the FIA of everything.

Briatore has also been inolved in his fair share of dodgy dealing, most notably, fixing the result of the Singapore GP in 2008.

To my knowledge, Jean Todt is the only guy who has never been "caught" doing something he shouldn't. We all know, that in the business of F1, everybody at some point in their career will do something they shouldnt. Its just a matter of whether they get away with it or not.

I think Martin Whitmarsh is ace - he always has that cheeky chappy look during interviews, I bet he would be ace down the pub :D

JT is a token pompous Frenchman, and Flav is just awesome to lol @, rather than with...

My £0.02!!

.

Wasnt clear cut that RD actually knew what the engineers where doing - maybe he knew maybe he didnt, there are "arguements" both ways

If a McLaren engineer over a race weekend walked out of the McL garage and walked next door to Mercedes (or whoever) with a laptop and sheafs of paper.....Im sorry but that isnt stealing in my book - thats a completely internal matter for McLaren (sack the guy, maybe take him to civil court etc etc) but its got FA to do with the FIA imo - and thats no different to how McLaren got gifted Ferrari data (and yes I would say it identically if it data was coming out of McLaren)

hmmm so just because JT hasnt been caught - he must be a good guy , well ok if you say so it must be true!!!

FB continually hired the drivers he managed for the team he was running - thats a clear conflict of interest, I still cant understand why Benetton /Renault never saw that. Even before he risked his own drivers life / those of stewards and spectators at the Singapore GP ( however lightly you want to think of that)

- Martin Brundle: I'm more relaxed about side-by-side action into the pit lane entry, where no person or equipment is in the road. It has been interpreted before that this is against the rules.

I hope people here accept that I was correct about the Alonso/Massa incident now

:D

(pfftt@Martin wanting to punish JB for bunching up the pack too much at 2nd restart/safety car lol - which just out of interest would have fed JB out around Sutil / Alonso territory in 6th/7th with 25 laps remaining.....)

I think Martin Whitmarsh is ace -

Martin Whitmarsh certainly wasnt lying when he said that his policy is to have the 2 best drivers in his cars.

After allowing Alonso to walk I questioned McLaren's policy, but when that happened Whitmarsh was not in charge. I wonder that if Whitmarsh has been in charge, how differently 2007 would've turned out and if Alonso would've been allowed to leave.

From what I can see Whitmarsh seems to a 'win at all costs' kind've guy, in which case, would he have backed one driver over the other in 2007? Would he have given in to Alonso's demands that he be given preferential treatment? I wonder.

This year, I think we will find out the answer to these questions as he clearly has 2 drivers going for the 2010 title.

I think Whitmarsh is great. He started off a bit slow and the Liegate put some clouds around him. But he has shown himself to be really capable.

I just hope the recent bad strategy calls at McLaren weren't due to himself!

As someone said, he's the sort of guy that you could speak to for hours over a pint.

I think he is leading McLaren in all new and potentially great direction. It is simple things like the way they now have all the engineers crowding around a center table. These things totally transform the dynamic in the team.

Ron Dennis though is just paddock furniture nowadays. Everyone loves to hear the odd "loaded soundbite" from him as he is like Gandalf in LOTR, old and wise. You can spend hours deciphering a single 10 word soundbite :D I hope he has some presence on the F1 scene this year considering its clear now that McLaren have built a rather decent and potential championship-winning car.

Ordering one of their drivers to crash?

Being caught with a chunk of McLaren data.
Not as scanned copies at an engineers home, but as digital files on their corporate servers and individual workstations and had also been discussed in meetings between high level designers and engineers.

Guilty, but no punishment...

...
After allowing Alonso to walk ...
"After allowing Alonso to walk" - are you kidding

What do you think McLaren should have done?
Insisted that Alonso honour his contract?
The guy had done a great job of undermining McLaren, do you really think that he was likely to become a key member of a harmonious team?

Alonso burned his boats good; he was bested by a rookie and couldn't deal with it; he worked perfectly with that crook Briatore and will fit in just fine at Ferrari.

Martin Brundle is ace... lot's of little interesting comments in that piece. Also, he needs to be a permanent steward - he's the only person I've seen calling for penalties "by the book". Although it might take a detrimental toll on the racing initially, I completely agree with his point that not enforcing the rules properly sets a dangerous precedent for the future...

He [Hamilton] has now made 32 competitive overtakes in just four races.... But Button is outsmarting if not outpacing him for now.

Perfectly summed up - no need for all your bickering :p

How did Ferrari recognise that so quickly and swap Massa's tyres, which were already in the pit-stop area, for Alonso's so they could be fitted first?

Interesting; maybe they didn't swap the tyres... maybe someone on the pitwall told Nando to **** Massa on the pit entry?!

Anyway, he may have sucked as a driver, but as a commentator/analyst, MB rocks!

I disagreed with Brundles comments on the penalties, Button definitely didn't deserve one and the next time someone does what Vettel and Hamilton did they'll get punished - its not like they have said "each driver is allowed to get away with trying to kill people in the pit lane once." After this incident we'll not see anyone driving side by side in the same manor due to the risk of a real punishment.

I also completely disagree with Brundle's comments on penalties. It's action like this that makes the racing more run to watch. Hamilton yielded in the end in the pits, and both of them got told off for it, that's enough, no need to actually penalise them at all!

All you will do is make the drivers over cautious....

he did pretty much stop and almost cause a pile up though, people were jumping off the track to dodge cars infront.

maybe not a penalty but i would have thought a telling off like hamilton and vettel.

I'm just thinking, Button did it after the safety car line though didn't he? So technically he could have done what he wanted at that point?

I haven't read any complaints about it after the race from other drivers but I do trust Brundles insight mostly.
