Chinese Grand Prix 2010, Shanghai - Race 4/19

Mercedes and Renault engines filling the top 9 positions in FP1. I guess Renault really have caught up in engine power. Yay for the engine development freeze!

.

Wait a minute....

You old cynic ;) I'm sure it's just the new car design helping airflow into the engine which has increased the power ;)

The engine freeze is the single dumbest rule I can ever remember in f1 and there have been lots of them.

So once again, the McLarens seem very strong. In the previous GP we saw the same pattern, however McLaren then proceeded to get caught out in the rain. Lets hope this time around they don't mess up.

It will be interesting to see if RedBull can dominate qualifying again, if McLaren do manage to make it to final qualifying.

Also, the Mercedes are looking competitive, with Rosberg once again outperforming MS.

It's RedBull's qualifying pace which is beating the Ferrari/McLarens.

How the hell have RedBull managed to get their car so low to the ground in low fuel configuration? Surely, they must be breaking some rules - but given that their car has passed inspections for 3 races - they obviously aren't.

Maybe they make the drivers eat loads of pies and they sweat off the extra weight during the race? Or it would be ice cream if Kimi was racing

I hope I can watch it live.. Got Dissertation in Sunday and 5k essay in Monday so time is looking unlikely!

Will be rather hard to not find out the results till ~4pm Monday!

Il have to watch and work I guess...

I like to ignore the world when im watching F1 though.. 3 hours of bliss escape!

I'm in the same position - my Dissertation is handed in on Monday so it looks like I won't get chance to see the race :(

I'll undoubtedly find out the results before watching it too :(

Only by utter fluke, under normal circumstance they would be well behind red bull and mclaren in the tables.

If's and but's...

You can come up with reasons why Ferrari are leading the championships; the fact remains that they are leading both and are in a great position.

...until you look in the engine cupboard...

The engine that blew up today was one of the ones changed during the first weekend in Bahrain and according to Ferrari there was no problem with it and it was just a precaution. Refitted it and 6 laps in - poof! I'm guessing that they're not going to risk doing the same with Massa's car which also had the engine changed in Bahrain.

Can't get near it, it's full of smoke :p

:D

The engine situation is definitely a worry, but its not a championship loser (unless the engines keep breaking during the races and DNF's become common place). If Ferrari need to use extra engines, they can simply take grid penalties and race with new engines. Alonso is capable enough to be able to get good points totals, even when starting the race in the middle of the grid.

I can see what you are saying though - going through so many engines so early in the season means extra pressure is placed on the team/drivers.
